Default Joshua Tree Park/Gram Parsons Memorial

Here's a couple pictures I took in Joshua Tree Park last week. It's a very non commercialized park. Probably because tha lack of water. We also went into the Joshua Tree Inn courtyard and saw the memorial in front of the room musician Gram Parsons overdosed in in 1973. This place is still pure 1970s in there. Parsons was a very influential musician who brought country into rock. He once told a friend that when he died he wanted his body burned in the park. His friend stole his body and fulfilled that wish.

Gram Parsons was one of my favorite musicians. He had tremendous influence on the Rolling Stones. "Wild Horses" was allegedly written by him. The Eagles would never have existed without him. Listen to his album Grievous Angel one of the best albums made. "The Streets of Baltimore" seems very poignant now.

I've never been there. Hope to rectify that sometime.

GP was amazing. Of course he was a Georgia boy...

He pretty much discovered Emmylou, and their harmonies are still some of the best ever recorded in any genre.

Went to Joshua Tree in 1988 while stationed at Twentynine Palms. At the time I just thought it was cool to visit a place that a U2 album was named for. I still have that LP.
