Default Randy Howard shot to death by bounty hunter

Country singer Randy Howard shot to death by bounty hunter.

What do you think about this? Are they legally right to go hunting people? Why isn't law Enforcement enough? Sheriffs usually deliver warrants. Not sure that was ever issued.

My thoughts are bounty hunters are just other citizens like me. Do they have special rights or privileges?

They do have special rights and privileges but ONLY with regard to the culprit. They can't detain a third party, have no other rights of entry or arrest (Other than those any citizen have). They can enter at will the culprit's property/residence but not his mother's, sister's, etc. They can't carry firearms without having a permit, etc.

Depends on your state. Here in NV they appear to have rights of entry up to and possibly beyond those of LEO. However, if one of them gets clobbered in the wrong house and I'm on the jury, they'll get no sympathy from me. Not sworn, not badged? Then I'm not interested.

When you post bail you surrender your normal rights to the bail bondsman and his agents. I haven't got a problem with it is they are only going after bail jumpers. Out on bail, behave yourself and make your court appearances as you agreed to when making bail and you don't have a problem with bounty hunters. Go to fighting with them and pulling guns on them probably isn't the best idea. DUH

In most states bounty hunters have basically LEO powers, except they are limited to the bail jumper, not the public at large. And if Randy Howard initiated the gunfight (as I have read he did, I don't know the facts), then the bounty hunter is presumed to have been within his rights while performing his duty to shoot back in self-defense.

Failure to appear for a 4th DUI offense . . . I have no compassion for drunk drivers. This was apparently the fourth time he'd got caught, not the forth time he'd driven drunk. Drunk drivers are a menace to society and they don't care who they injure or kill on the public roadway. Could be the wife or son or daughter or parents of any one of us. In my opinion a repeat DUI offender is worse than any thug with a gun and are twice as likely to hurt someone.

I say thumbs up to the bounty hunter, if they want to jump bail bring 'em back dead or alive.

About two months ago.My wife and I were visiting distillery's in southern Tn.We were having dinner in a bbq place in Lynchburg and he set up
And was playing music there .Seemed like a nice old boy.But I have no sympathy for his crimes.Remember the bounty hunter was shot just trying to make him go to court.

10-4 on repeat offender.

I consider a DUI a mistake. The second DUI marks you as a problem. Having been caught once, your brain should alert you not to do it again, or even be in a remote chance of doing it again. I think multiple DUI should be a felony.

Things sure have changed in 50 years. Yesterday, I got caught behind a girl in a Toyota with a U Georgia sticker in the back window. She was weaving in her lane; she was 10 mph below the rest of traffic - in the left lane! 50 years ago, everyone who saw it would have known she was drunk. Now, when I finally got around her on the right side, she had her head down TEXTING. When she gets caught, I hope they throw the book at her. As dangerous as a drunk - driving like a drunk.

You should catch a few episodes of "Dog, the Bounty Hunter", but don't believe everything you see.

The bounty hunter is after people who have been arrested for a crime; posted bail to get out of jail till a court date; and failed to show up for that court date.

The bounty hunter has been a part of our criminal justice system for hundreds of years. The cost of a $50,000 bond is about $5,000. The bail bondsman pays the bounty hunter to bring back the defendant bail jumper, or he has to pay $50,000 to the court because the defendant did not show up. This does take some of the burden off LEO's.

And because they are after a fugitive, they have special arrest powers.
They are not ordinary citizens like you and me when they are after a fugitive.

My only encounter with bounty hunters was while on a rural county sheriffs department, myself and another deputy was dispatched to a "Disturbance"
late one night. On arrival there were several individuals running around in a residence and outside. One very plump lady came running around the house waving a Desert Eagle .44 Magnum Pistol. She and her "Cohorts" were "Bail Bondsmen" taking in a "Bail Jumper". So another ulcer and more grey hair for Jimmy as I came very close to ending the career of a "Bails Person". If the Bounty Hunters and Repo Folks would just notify the local Law Enforcement Agency what they were doing, lots of hassle would be avoid.

Didn't know the man; if I had, my response might be different. As it stands, he is reported to have had a rap sheet a mile long and bought into the whole ridiculous "outlaw music" scene, so...

...play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I thought they had to inform local law enforcement when they are going after someone? Could be different state to sate but pretty sure they have to here in CO.

I honestly do not want to sound crude, however; I think this persons demise is not going to be a significant loss to the community. I am a bit confused, are we supposed to riot and burn some police cars and loot the high dollar shoe and electronics stores? You know, to protest his death?

As far as I'm concerned, there will only be one real bounty hunter!

Good example of that kind of thing in this new story that happened not too far from where I live. Bounty hunter came face to face with a copper, shined a laser on the officer, bounty hunter soaked up two bullets. Officer not charged.

I'm just hazarding a guess here, but in the final analysis, the Coroner's 'Cause of Death' will probably read; "Randy Howard died of Terminal Stupidity." ........

That's not an accident. That is a deliberate and justified shooting. The fact that the nitwit who got himself shot would not normally have been a target, should not have made himself one, and did not have criminal intent does not change the officer's lawful response to an accident. Calling it an "accident" is a shameful misuse of the English language.
As for Mr. Howard: His choices created this. Could just as easily have been a cop that was there. (And "outlaw country" is not like "outlaw biker" - it's a style based on staying closer to the roots and not rolling over for the Nashville establishment. It's been around for 40 or more years.)

I agree with you 100%, deliberate and justified.

The word "accident", was used by a bail bondsman and a dumb reporter. Go figure.

This is the key, IMHO. I used to try to find ways to not get speeding tickets, turns out if you don't speed they don't pull you over. Same way I avoid DUI charges, don't drink and drive. Simple.

If it happened as reported, he asked for it and received what he asked for. I'm sure the Bail fella didn't get up that day and hope to take a life.
