What does CAI mean when stamped on a revolver ? I saw one for sale that said " CAI import marked ".

CAI has a tendency to go overboard.

I don't recall who imported my K98, but it is stamped, in little bitty letters, neatly, on the bottom of the barrel.

My Luger, on t'other hand, says "C.A.I., GEORGIA VT", followed by the new serial number (since they did not like the one that Erfert gave it) all written right about here, in a large scrawling hand, by what appears to be a drunken second-grader, in electo-pencil.

I would take "CAI-import marked" as a warning that it would large and obvious.

Being that it is a revolver, it is probably one that was exported from the US during WWII or an English Army revolver. The majority of those US exported revolvers went to both England and China so there is a good chance it came from either place.

CAI=Run Away

My opinion comes from first hand knowledge; I once visited their "production facility" In St. Albans, VT.

I truly thought it was a half way house for the homeless, with drinking/drug issues.

Run Away!

Canada, Austrian, Belgium, France, Puerto Rico all have imported S&W revolvers in the last 40 years. I have a 13-2 from Puerto Rico and the gun was made in 1982

Built by = yes run away.

Imported is just that, imported. Gun sold the way it comes in.

CAI is one of the largest arms dealers. They import and export a metric ton of guns a year.
