Sweat's been captured
No details yet, but I just heard on TV David Sweat has been captured alive, and taken back to prison. He was shot, but not fatally.

In the old days they'd hack his Achilles tendons to keep him from getting "rabbit" again. Probably getting chopped steak and mashed taters today. Joe

Now that's good news. Too bad they have to take care of him now, though.

Great teamwork, no civilian or law enforcement injuries, and he lives to talk. Can't wait to hear the "rest of the story."

I don't want to hear what the guy has to say . . . we need stop allowing celebrity status for thugs and scumbags who rape, rob, murder, and pillage.

"I don't want to hear what the guy has to say"
I am looking forward to it. It should be fascinating to find out exactly how the escape was planned and executed, and the involvement of others.

Oh him him talk. There is a good chance that this will put some serious bad light on some highly placed officials.
Should be a large list of heads rolling because of this situation!

Thugs have been romanticized since at least Robin Hood's day. But mostly didn't get all three names in print until recently.

I wouldn't be surprised that Sweat will be deluged by literary agents to write a book about it. Could be a best seller. Don't know if it is legal in NY for a perp to benefit from his crime.

A proper end to this episode would involve
a short rope and a long drop.

What I meant is that he will provide evidence on how the escape went down, who assisted him and the other dead convict, and if appropriate make more arrests and so it will never happen again.

I have to believe that some Hollywood screenwriters are right this minute putting together a made-for-TV movie script.

Shot twice by a NYSP Trooper in the ironically named town of Constable.
The trooper might need range remediation.
Then again, I've seen some of those small community hospitals in action, there might be hope yet.

It was costing ~$1 million a day to search for this guy. I hope that he'll talk about how they were able to get out but what real leverage do they have to make him? Maybe a transfer to another prison where he's not as "popular"?

I'd want him to talk. There seems to be tons of questionable stuff going on at that prison. Plus details of the escape would be interesting... they eluded cops for 20+ days. LE could learn something from it.
But he won't. He'd he hated in prison for it. Legally I don't think he can profit from it either.

I was watching Fox News when the reporterette made the statement.
The BS meter pegged outright, and still hasn't returned to zero.
Why, I'll wager a dollar to a doughnut, that had that officer been at the other scene on Friday, he would have been able to shoot that shotgun right out of the BG's hands.

They have been using the Glock Model 37 since 2008, wanted more takedown power from the Glock Model 26, 9mm.

The ME says Mann was shot three times in the head...seems about right. The BP guy was a marksman for sure.

Sounds like the escapee may have been shot in the torso in the back while running away into the forest.
My thanks go out to each and every LE who puts on gun and a badge to protect civilians from danger.
But please, don't tag me for speeding when I am going 5-10 miles per hour less than the drivers to the left and the right of me on the Garden State Parkway.

Remediation? Sgt. Cook fired twice and hit him twice, on a skinny moving target, after a foot chase from quite some distance.
I'm guessing you've never been in a shooting. That is phenomenal.

I'm guessing you've never been in a shooting. That is phenomenal.

He might've looked OK in the pictures, but supposedly those two to the torso have him in critical at the hospital.
So, with any luck, No Sweat.
That deputy he killed who was the reason he was in prison: Sweat shot him several times and then ran over him while he was still alive.
Seems like it would be karma for him to die at the hands of LE, doesn't it?
