RIP, Buddy
Buddy Emmons has died at 78.
Buddy was, perhaps, the best pedal steel player, ever.
He revolutionized the instrument and chordage.
He, along with Shot Jackson, created Sho-Budd guitar company.
So long, Buddy.
Thanks for creating the true "country sound".

I remember Buddy as far back as the late 1950s when he was part of Ernest Tubb's Texas Troubadours. Great talent.

While I don't know him by name, I love good steel guitar work. Will be adding him to my Pandora mix. May God bless his family and friends in their time of loss.

He was a giant. I firmly believe that pedal steel is one of the most difficult instruments to master. With the foot pedals and knee levers, the margin for error is huge. Most players give up and switch to something else.
Another great, Lloyd Hazelbaker (Bob Wills) told me that a good steel player can write their own ticket.
I met Buddy a few times at trade shows. He floored me then and will continue to do so.

I do enjoy hearing a pro on an Emmons steel. Country's family reunion has a young steel player that can really make it talk to you. Rip Mr. Emmons. Thank you!
