Tombstone Territory w/Pat Conway.
I remember some months ago asking what people thought of this oldish Western TV series, but not much could be said? got a bit of info for ya. I just started watching the series on dvd a few days ago.It started out veery well--and has gotten better the more I watch.Soif anyone is wanting to watch this series, its very well made--high production values, and beat The Texan--hands down.
The Texan was OK--then had better stories-lost of big name guests, but the production--not nbad--was not very high either. The used the same sets in this series as many different towns.Lots ofother similiarities. The goood thing about The Texan--is the many good guests and Rory Calhoun is very likable. But back toTombstone Territory.
Pat Conway is very likable--as well as whomever is playing his Deputy--as well as the owner/editor of the Daily Epitapth--the towns newspaper. The guy playing the owner--also narrates the seriews.I like the way its done--seemingly--all stories taken from editions of the news paper.
Im only on the first disc--and the stories started out good--and are getting better. Also, for dvds turned out by the cheapo companies--these episodes are like new quality vs--some like new quality for The Texan--to some with defects. So far,no defects in any episode of Tombstone Territory ive seen.
Anyone liking westerns--will enjoy this series.
PS,the ending theme song is agood one,im hooked.

Not even after I looked it up.
I think that at point in my life, I was just too busy to watch tv.

Thanks for the review, I'll have to look for it. The local Cracker Barrel has a couple of movie racks with a lot of older westerns, will have to give it a good look next time we go for breakfast.

I vaguely remember the show and the song, but not Pat Conway. At first I was picturing Tim Conway, and having a really hard time seeing him as sheriff of anyplace.

(When your past has run a foul of the law it's a handy place to be cuz your futures just as good as your draw in Tombstone Territory.) I remember that program when I was a kid and part of the theme song always stuck in my mind. I believe Conway's name in the series was Clay Hollister wasn't it

Thanks very much for this link. Haven't heard that tune for decades, yet somehow, I remembered all of the words. Looked like Leonard Nimoy in some of those photos.

If I remember correctly, it was said either at the beginning or the end of each episode (or both). "Tombstone, The town too tough to die"

IIRC (?) The sheriff dressed sharp and wore two six shooters in town. When He went out in the boonies he wore rough clothing and carried one long barrel six shooter.

So far,ive seen him wearing two six shooters in or out of town in all episodes so far,and sometimes he carried a double barrel shotgun or a Winchester repeater. I started off watching the last disc by mistake because it was put in the space of the first disc--and even the last episode was very good. I found it funny that they had a character called:Curly Bill, and I kind of wonder if the powers that be--when making a movie with Jack Palance :::sorry I cant think of the title or its sequals name?:: that they used the characters name as a homage of somekind--to Tombstone Territory??
I had thought I had never seen any episodes before but--strangely enough, the only thing i remembered about the one or two episodes I did see--as a young kid--the part of the newspaper guy narrating the story.
Im already through disc two--of ten. And sofar, the quality on allbut two episodes--had been great. The two that were kind of sketchy--might be because of my cheapo dvd player???
Someone mentiioned Leonard Nimoy as an Indian--yep--its he but--I dont know if he was ever in that series or not?? He was in several of: The Texan episodes--no speaking parts in any--and one he had a laughing part.

It was the beginning narration where that was said.

Was eating this spring at the Las Cruces Cracker Barrrel.
They had a really big hot fire going in their fireplace.
It looked like hardwood. And of course NM isn't a place known for hardwood.
I ask the hostess what kind of wood is that?
She asked the manager and told me 'pecan.'
They raise a lot of pecans down in Southern NM. They were burning old dead trees.

It wasn't Tim Conway that was the Sheriff, it was Pat Conway.

You mean.....
You mean Clay Hollister? The premise of using stories from the Tombstone Epitaph was a great idea. We made it a point to drive through Tombstone on one of our trips out West.
I think my favorite episode was when the fancy dualist came to town and tried to intimidate people as being a 'dangerous man' but Clay got sick of him and got his number and called BS on all of his tricks and defeated him in a gun battle by squatting so the guy would shoot over him. The look on his face when he expended his bullet into the air only to have Hollister holding a loaded gun on him was priceless.
I few that I remember well was Bat Masterson, Cheyenne, Cimarron City, Colt .45, Death Valley Days, Laramie, The Lawman, The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, Sky King, Fury, My Friend Flicka, Tales of Wells Fargo, Wagon Train, The Rebel, Wrangler, Stagecoach West, Riverboat, Rawhide and more...

I love Tombstone!
I swing through there just about every time I go over to S AZ.
Tim Conway- TV early on he was Navy. As in McHale's Navy.
He put the pedal to the metal in a PT Boat, sort of.

Back in the 50s and 60s there were lots of TV westerns. Us now mature gentlemen watched one after another and seems we turned out alright as law abiding citizens. Guess we weren't brainwashed by cowboys and Indians bangin away. These days we have only Hell On Wheels to watch and violence seems far worse than back in our days.

I grew up watching after school: Gunsmoke, The Rifleman and any other western that graced our--pre-cable TV days. I havent shot anyone, never scapled an injun either. Anyway,I TRIED my best--honest--to give Hell on Wheels a chance but--I dont care for and dont consider that show--a western.
