Bet that was taken at her cottage Val-Kil, probably got a target that looks like FDR after she caught him riding dirty with the help.

This website provides the same picture and much more detail about the revolver, which was a .22 Outdoorsman from 1933, and its recent sale: Eleanor Roosevelt Carried a .22 Revolver | Range365
I believe I have read or heard that she also carried a .32 revolver

During the war, Eleanor and a companion or 2 traveled all over the country with no Secret Service protection. I once saw a copy of her NY concealed carry permit.

I think Eleanor was grateful for FDR's female diversions. She had her own friends.

There is talk of putting a famous American lady on the new $10 bill. I think that photo would look just great. Of course that revolver might get edited out, and replaced with a radio or flashlight.

Her Uncle Theodore had a little experience with firearms. She was his favorite niece.

With a mustache and glasses, she would look like TR.

They built a VIP version of the C-87 for FDR.
That's a transport version of the B-24.
It had a lift under the rear fuselage to raise FDR in his wheel chair up into the plane.
After the Secret Service checked into the plane's safety record, they said
'No way Jose!' 'He ain't flying in that bird.'
So the assigned it to Eleanor.

This picture of Mrs. Roosevelt has been around for a long time and I have used it in discussions with anti-gun aquaintances as part of my discussion as to the positive nature of guns for self protection. The reality that she carried, in addition to her protection by the Secret Service comes as a shock to some who assumed that with her progressive outlook on political issues she would also be an anti-gunner. In truth, back in the day when this photo was taken, anti-gunners were certainly not in the mainstream and only seemed to have influence in some large Eastern cities like NY (note that her NY state license is clearly marked as not being valid in New York City). The response I often get to this picture is that "... it was a different time, and that if Eleanor Roosevelt were alive today she likely would be in favor of more gun control". You can't use logic and facts to convince someone to change what is essentially an emotion based opinion.

Not too long ago, PBS aired a series called "The Roosevelts" which examined in some detail the entire history of the family, including Teddy. It contained pretty much a "Warts and all" treatment of Eleanor. She definitely preferred the companionship of her female friends. Well worth watching no matter what you think of the Roosevelts.
