Default Need Some Assistance

I have purchased quite a few guns in my life, from gun stores and privately. I have never bought one from on-line auctions sites, such as Gun Broker. Exactly what do I need to provide the seller in order to get the gun shipped to a local FFL? Does the FFL provide me a copy of his license via email and I then forward it to the seller, also via email? Or does it have to be faxed to the seller? Apparently, my local FFL has never handled a GB sale before either, as he did not think a copy of his FFL was needed. I am positive it is, per ATF regulations.

Any advice and guidance is appreciated.

I just have my ffl email a copy to the seller. If the seller does a lot of volume,it's a good idea to include an auction number with it.

Just my experience from some Gunbroker/on line firearm buys. Your FFL definitely needs to provide a copy of his FFL to the seller. My FFL gives me a copy of his license which I mail with my check or USPS MO to the seller. I've also emailed a copy and in some cases, a large retailer already had my dealer's license on file and I did not need to provide another copy. Your FFL guy, who doesn't sound like the sharpest tool in the shed, should if necessary be willing to receive a gun from a non-FFL if your Gunbroker seller isn't one and plans to send the gun directly to your FFL.

Be sure to tell the seller to include your name and contact information in the shipment. I've had sellers not do that and my FFL doesn't know who the gun is for until I come to the shop inquiring about my firearm. Usually the seller will include some form of ID in the shipment, a driver's license or a copy of his license if he is one. He should also include a copy of the invoice stating the purchase price although this is not necessary to complete the transaction.

Default Most LGSs....

Most do transfers. If you put the seller and your FFL guy together, they will trade information. usually faxing a license. You tell your FFL guy to expect shipment, usually by filling out a form with name, address, etc... basic info. When your FFL gets the gun, either check on it or he'll call you and you will have to fill out the Federal paperwork, usually nowadays on computer, but I still have filled out forms by hand (sucks) and when it gets approved (In SC they get back in a few minutes). You pay your FFL the transfer fee (usually $20-$35) and you walk out with a gun. I just got a new Shield a few days ago. Easy as pie and smooth. Reminds me I need to leave feedback.

Your LGS should do this. Pretty easy money for just completing a transaction and paperwork.

Thanks for all the good info. It really helps. I knew what had to happen, just was not sure of the "mechanics" involved in accomplishing the task. Here in Kansas, if you have a CCW permit, the FFL does not even have to do a NICS check, just fill out the 4473, sign it and file it. So it's really easy money for not much effort. Glad to pay for the service though.

In addition to the information in the above responses, I always ask for a "Bill of Sale" from the seller (with the seller's name address, serial number, purchase price, date of sale, etc.) to provide written proof that I own the firearm and to document the purchase price for insurance purposes.

That's probably why he asked me if I had a CCW before I started. I'll probably have one soon, then it will be EVEN EASIER to buy LOTS of guns.

I've seen people charging upwards of 35 or 40 bucks, when there's plenty of people here that will do it for 25 or in this case $20. You can't beat that with a stick. Only thing better would be if they offered a free service.

The last three guns I got, I didn't get any paperwork. I asked and they said I didn't need any. I guess if it's registered it's on record, which is a good side of privacy invasion.

Yeah, it's downright weird not to come out with a receipt or a copy of SOMETHING.

The dealer that receives the gun for you transfers it to you and you
should get a receipt from him. Sellers normally include paperwork with
the gun indicating who its for. When you get an email from the auction
site notifying you that you have won an auction print a copy of it.
