Default Best Christmas gift ever

In the spirit of the worst Christmas gifts ever.

Lets hear it loungers,

I guess going to Nurnberg Germany to Christkindelmarkt with my soon to be wife who was a local from there and asking her dad for permission to marry her.

Pops gave me his blessing.

It's something to behold when the Nurnberg Angel speaks.

What was a big party goes totally silent except for her.

Good times with mein Nurnberg Angel.

1st best; I proposed on my bride on Christmas eve in 1981 and we've been married 33 years.

2nd best; our youngest son (who turns 18 in a few weeks) was born Christmas morning.

Lovely memory, sweet times, thanks for sharing. I can almost taste the Glühwein and see the snow covered roofs of the city from the castle.

It would have to be the Remington 11-48 16 Ga I got when I was thirteen. It was very special to me then I think I slept with it the first few weeks after I got it. But looking back knowing how hard my dad had to work to pay for that shotgun makes it even more special now. I still have it and if I had to get rid of all my guns it's the one you would have to pry from my cold dead hands.

Wife put an appropriately-weighted metal plate inside the vapor paper in my 6-1/2 inch Model 24-3 box and wrapped it. She had never given me a gun before. On top of the plate was a wooden rubber band gun.

Hook, line and sinker...

I still have nightmares after trying some Jagermeister when I was invited to a Germans staumtisch when at a stadt, called: Dingelsdorf near Konstanz.

As the mods will attest, I'm not very good at following directions, as such, I listed my best Christmas gift in the "worst" thread. My youngest son was born on Christmas day in '95. Not only my best Christmas gift, but in the top couple of best days ever!

Much to her dismay, Boo was not his prom date!

Finding out my wife was cheating on me Christmas morning 1998. Seriously. Absolutely one of the best gifts ever. That day it didn't seem so, but it was quickly apparent it was. Quick easy divorce. I got the dog and guns. I then had one hell of a run the next few years. Eventually I met the right one and we've been the perfect team ever since. (side note - more proof it was a glorious gift - according to my news sources, the ex turned out to be a disgusting train wreck in her next few failed marriages as well.)

That Nighthawk 1911 in .357sig my "right" wife got me a couple years ago might be running a close second....

The accordion my sweetie bought me a few years back. I had no idea I wanted one, but I sure was tickled to get it.

I took some lessons for about a year from the dean of local accordion players, but then a torn rotator cuff from a dirt bike mishap forced me to put it down. Might have to drag it out and fire it up again. You wouldn't want to listen to me, but i can amuse myself for days

I almost said my Filson double mac, but she gave me that for my birthday.

I love the accordion music in the Bavarian Alps. Plus accordions themselves are works of art.

You can hike up the mountains in the spring and watch others coming and going on the trails or maybe see some ultralights flying through the mountains. Mountain bikes everywhere.

Winters are a whole other thing, I recommend the gondolas.

Anyhow, as you get on up there you'll start to hear the music and then you smell the food. Truley a paradise and worth every step of the way.

If you hear accordion music, you will be okay. It's the banjo music you need to worry about.

I've been known to pick a song or two with the five string guys.

What're you implying?

Mine can't come close to the afore mentioned Christmas gifts but my brother who passed away from muscular dystrophy and I got a Vertibird. Does anyone remember it? A helicopter circa 1971, flying on a rotating motor in a circle with a cable attached to it. It was meant to fly indoors and would hover. You could pick up a space capsule with it and an astronaut. My brother and I had hours of fun with it as it was one of the only toys he could manipulate with his hands. After three major tune ups I still own it and fly it every Christmas Eve in his memory. I still get a kick out of it every time I fly it!

Been thinkin' 'bout it. Then today my wife was using a rechargeable mixer and the battery died.
I grabbed my Black and Decker cordless drill my sister gave me about a decade ago, chucked the wisk and gave that cheesecake mix a good fluffing up.
Made my wife happy.
Sometimes it's the little things.
Anyway, I've gotten lotsa use out of that drill over the years.

When I was eleven years old. Got a 30-30 Marlin lever action for Christmas. Spent many years deer hunting with it along side my dad. I now realize how my dad must have saved to buy it. 7 kids and we were poor money wise.

I was 10 years old and my big brother got me a Daisy pump BB gun. The fun I had with it and the bird population did suffer. I became a good shot with that BB gun. I cleaned out the mice in the wood shed and the grainy. And we had some really good bb gun fights. I had the advantage as my gun had a stronger spring, no one lost an eye either.

Sorry for your loss. MD runs in my family and I too lost a brother to it. I also have it but not as bad. My lower arms are strong as heck, upper arms never will be able to do much past 20 pounds. Strangely, I do remember that toy. Never had one but next door neighbor did. That is, until another kid got mad with him for something and shot it out of the air with a pellet gun.

We had hellacious bb gunfights too. I have a small scar on one of my cheeks and another on one of my feet. Its a wonder we all lived?

In 1958, I think it was, I was 5 then, and I got a plastic tripod mounted .50 cal machine gun, on Christmas Eve. Battery operated, had the red thing in the end of the barrel that went back and forth. Between me and my cousins, we ran down the batteries that evening. When I was in 6th grade, I got a Daisy Spittin Image .22 BB gun, the one that looks like the Remington Fieldmaster. When I was 21 Dad gave me a Nylon Mohawk 10C, that I will always have. I will always remember the Christmas I got my Shootin' Shell Fanner 50. The ladies of the family were in the kitchen fixing Christmas Dinner, I strolled in, drew the Mattel and fanned away. It was a slaughter, little plastic bullets bouncing everywhere. I can still hear my aunt scream.

Default It has to be a very personal one I received this year

What is it? My own life..
On Oct 12, 2015 I accidentally shot myself in the left forearm with my own 617-0 which has a 4" barrel. Since I turned 75 this summer one would think I knew better - apparently not.

The phone was on the table next to my hand so I was able to dial 911 immediately which resulted in the speedy arrival of an ambulance and more squad cars than I could count. I was rushed off to UW Hosp in Madison for surgery which revealed severed Radial and Median nerves after opening the forearm up from the palm of my hand to the crook of the elbow. The nerve ends were inserted into tubes to direct their re-growth toward the other end, carpal tunnel surgery and skin graft a few days later. After 2 weeks there I was transferred to a Good Sam in my home town.

I have not been home since then and will not have any feeling in 3 fingers for 1-2 years but the .22 bullet could have just as easily shattered my elbow or gone directly into my chest. I am not a particularly religious person but after reliving that horrid 2 seconds so many times I have thanked God over and over for the most beautiful gift I could possibly receive -My Life.

I should be home by Christmas.

One Shot

My BB gun shot like a corkscrew but I put about a million BBs through it and got dang good with it and could judge the distance to hit where the corkscrew pattern was at the range I needed. I aimed at a bird at a distance, knowing I would never hit it and was horrified when the bird fell out of the tree. To make it worse, it wasn't a clean kill and the little thing suffered. That's all I want to say about it. I didn't mind hunting later but that affected me permanently. I don't kill anything that doesn't need killing or eating.

My best Christmas present this years is my wife. Has knee replacement surgery and home help care and we got her out of the hospital after 5 weeks of recuperating and therapy. Won't be going anywhere by herself anytime soon. Frank

Thank you. My brother was effected badly and was more like a skeleton at best. I'm lucky that its only a small area effected. My lower body can easily resemble Pop eyes lower, my forearms soon to be Popeye like, but upper, no chance. Its mainly because of this, why I was never excepted into the military. Its been said that I'll end up in a wheelchair, but I don't see that happening anytime soon thank God.

Same type thing happened to me, which is why I'll never be a hunter. I'm not against killing an animal, like a bear wanting to eat your guts out, or killing rattlesnakes and such, but as long as food is available in restaurantsetc, I ain't killing. What had happened was a small bird that fell out of its nest, had been mauled but not eaten, by a dog. It was still alive and suffering. I thought one shot to its head would end its suffering? nope, it took several. Since then, I've not knowingly killed anything cept tarantulas, roaches and ants.

Hoping everything goes well for her. I didn't want to Sabrina everyone out by giving more details but, she being here will be my best gift ever.

Ah...when I was 9 I was given a Winchester Model 37 410 for Chistmas. Oh my..I even got a WHOLE box of 3 inch 410 shells. Good grief That little gun provided hundreds of meals over the years. Squirrels rabbits. I even shot my first Canada Goose(on Thanksgiving day 1959) with that gun and quite a few ducks which were my mothers favorite. Unhappily My father borrowed it to hunt rabbits with shortly before his death. It was stolen from his house. But if I ever see it...I will recognize it immediately. LOL

She's doing better now that she is home. Sgt Rock my oldest daughter has been keeping tabs on me as well as issuing orders. Thanks for your concerns. Frank

( years ago this Christmas Day, the first grandchild (and only granddaughter) was born. Beautiful German Blonds, are always a wonderful Christmas gift! As many of you already know, in Germany, Christmas Eve is the gift giving day, That's when her mom arrived. So we have a tradition going now! Ivan

I owe it to you and her. Glad she's doing better. Heh heh, I love it-Sgt. Rock. BTW, Rock's first name is Frank. I loved that comic and collected about 300 issues.

Sadly, some of us will be wishing to regain bladder control once again, or for sphincter muscle transplant operation.

She had the knee replacement done now as my oldest daughter Sgt Rock is getting married in May of '16. Keep telling her to slack off but she's trying her best. And if anyone says it's time to get my knees replaced I'm gonna say "Why are they missing", just before I whack them with a bat. After what she is going through I don't see it in my future. Frank

Thumbs up BEST GIFT

Well there are several on this list but I have to say it was this year. I got it a bit early but was informed I will have a new Grandson in February coming. What a way to start off the new year!! This was most unexpected to say the least. Youngest Son has been married a number of years and they both have good careers.

As best I recall I was 12 when this was under the tree. A year or two before was a really fun mini-bike. Thanks dad. My dad, not well-off, always went above and beyond for me. I've shot thousands of rounds through it and my son loves shooting it too. This year he's getting me a complete set up for reloading including a lot of brass and bullets. Best thing he ever got for me was my education - about life and formal schooling. No, he will not adopt you.

IF your actually suffering from bladder control? ask yer doktor, to get you a script for Myrbetriq, its what I use at night and really works. Instead of getting up every 90 mins or so? I get up once a night. Sleep is a goooooood cracker.
