Defiance cancelled
Was going through the list of shows that had been renewed for another season or just plain cancelled. Well they went and cancelled Defiance so no season 4. yet they kept Z-Nation. Game of thrones got the axe as well. And they also renewed The Walking Dead. Just wondering about something, walking dead has been on for 6 years and no mention of what the gov't is doing to alleviate the problem with the zombies. Frank

Breaking these news is not easy, I know millions of fans worldwide have been manically expecting a 6th season ever since the final episode of season 5, but I am afraid, due to various reasons, that we have discontinued the filming of season 6. The season was supposed to air this upcoming spring, but due to grieviances from the owner and purveyor of the Game of Thrones franchaise, we are simply unable to keep producing new material. I have huge respect for George R.R Martins sovereigntiy over his own world and we regret that it has come to a point where he no longer thinks that the cast and crew are custodians of his legacy. We will of course grant George’s decision to not continue filming and we will also desist the selling of merchandaise related to the TV show. I hope that all the fans will also respect George’s decision and that they will not leave the world of Westeros by continuing to buy his books. Maybe some day he will change his mind, but right now, there’s no way forward.”
said D. B. Weiss, executive producer, at the pressconference.
George R.R Martin was at the press conference too but he kept a low profile and only answered a handful of questions. This is a comment he made:
“It’s time to let this all come to rest. For the first four seasons I was very enthused by what the cast and crew were doing, but at this point I have lost all faith that the television show could ever do my books any justice. The quality has rapidly decreased and for a long time now I have felt myself not feeling comfortable with how they’re treating my story. That is why there will be no more seasons of Game of Thrones, maybe not ever. I do hope everyone will keep enjoying my books though.”

I was afraid that Defiance was on the way out after watching the last episode this year... Heck it was a good pro-gun/pro-self defense sci-fi series....I'm sure both of those points counted against it heavily...plus it was based here in Missouri in the St. Louis area... I kept looking for Jim Rhiner to be a local star in it (grins)...

With Nolan 'Lost In Space' I was wondering if that was going to be the final season.

Zombies are in right now. Walking Dead has lots of guns! And I like it. Z Nation is a zombie spoof. I hated it but it has grown on me as long as I remember they are trying to be a spoof.
I know for a long time the rumors of Game of Thrones being cancelled have floated. Actually, at one point it was a scam to get you to go to websites with malware. I will believe it when it ain't on HBO. Awful lot of money involved and if the rumors of it's demise are off the Internet versus one of those E! Entertainment shows I would be skeptical.

So paraphrasing, the TV company wanted to sex/action up the story beyond what the author would tolerate. Fair enough, I'll buy the books.

I'm guessing some kind of creative differences. I never watched the show. Never got around to it. Heard it's good

If there is a penny or two to be made, I would bet that those Harvard educated, Hollyweird attorneys will find the legalize and the right court to get the show aired. I mean the mafia would not mess with those guys when it comes to money. I have no doubt that George R.R Martin will be shown the light very soon.

From interviews I have seen, Mr Martin is very much his own man and not easily intimidated.

Sorry to say, I won't miss Defiance.
I really got into it the first season. Then they did a looong hiatus promising they'd be back the next year. In the meantime? Play the online game! No, thank you.
Then, it just seemed they lost direction. Killed off characters I liked, made bizarre transformation of others. I went back to my favorites: 1930s, '40s and '50s B&W movies.
Not looking back.

What really ticked me off regarding the last episode of Defiance was that COX has been having problems down here. Loss of sound and bad pics. So when I went on demand at the syfy channel it carried the same problems on the very same episode. Frank

I think Game of Thrones being cancelled was a prank news report.

Dominion got canned also. At least Falling Skies and Last Ship were allowed to reach a conclusion.

I haven't watched the SyFy network since they cancelled Eureka.
I was thinking/hoping The Last Ship was continuing?

I need to stay home more...haven't heard of 90% of these shows! Guess that is what happens when you give away your television in 1981! The TV habit died then and there.

Apparently this is from a September article in "The Portly Gazelle":
Game of Thrones Season 6 cancelled – “George R.R Martin got the final say” |
Since they've been filming steadily since then, and since no other site has reported this, I'd say all of our GoT friends will be back on HBO come spring.
George RR can write (or in his case, not write) all the books he wants. HBO will plow forward with their own scriptwriters with or without him.
