Frustration!
Didn't get much shooting done lately, what with all the holiday bustle. Was REALLY looking forward to some shooting this week. Wasn't to be. Monday and Tuesday it rained. Wednesday it blew, about 40 MH. Thursday it rained and yesterday it blew again. Today it's warm, still and not a cloud in the sky; all the folks that couldn't shoot during the week will be at the range today, along with the weekend crowd. I don't want to buck that.
Was thinking of going out in the desert, but I grew up where there were a lot of dirt roads, and the wisdom then, probably going back to Model T days, was that you didn't drive on dirt roads for several days after a rain, to keep from getting stuck. Phoooy! Not that I don't need the practice but I'll have to content myself with 13 yards in the laundry room and garage with my air pistol and air rifle. High hopes for next week; just hope they won't be dashed.

Today the weather was gorgeous; not a cloud in the sky. It was fairly still but when the wind moved, it was COLD. I went out to shoot.
I usually have some purpose in mind when I go out to shoot: sight in a firearm, try out a new batch of handloads. shoot in a match; but today I just wanted to shoot for fun. I went out with a couple of revolvers, and a bag full of empty beer cans.
I tok a K 22 and a K 38, both 5 screw. I had shot the K 22 in the 1950s when it belonged to a friend. The Army moved me around so it wasn't till about 10 years ago I was able to buy it from him. In the intervening 50 years or so it had hard use: the cylinder stops wre peened, it had end shake, and often misfired. I think he fanned it. It took almost 18 months to get it back from Chicoine, but it was perfect. I sure miss them.
The K 38 I got at a gun show in San Antonio. It was really quite pretty but looked a lot better when I put a set of Sile grips on it. Very little blue wear. However I found it did have push-of. I consulted the forum and was told the problem is generally the trigger. However when I took the hammer off, I could see a horizontal line acrosss the sear surface. At the next gun show I got a target hammer for it; not proper for the age of the gun, but easier to cock. S&W interchangability was such that it require no fitting at all and gave a light trigger pull. I'm delighted with the revolver.
I bounced the beer cans and shot at them until I couldn't hit they any more, one-handed and single action. That came at about 40 yards. Came back in with a bunch of well ventilated cans and a big grin on my face. I'm going to do a lot more 'just fun' shooting.

It's always good to get some recoil therapy.
I've been itching to get out again. Last opportunity to
shoot was 2 weeks ago.
But Winter finally showed up here and now it's 15 degrees
outside and calling for more snow tuesday.
But by friday they are calling for temps to reach the low
40's and sunshine so i will be back at the Gravel Pit
hopefully with my new 10 shot pre-lock 617.
It's on it's way to my FFL !!! Should be there Wednesday.
Just the smell of gun powder and the relaxing nature of
shooting for fun are what it's about for me.
Sure i like to shoot for groups and see what i can wring
out of my guns accuracy wise but just shooting for fun
is what i'm usually doing. Nothing like it in the World !!

I'm ready to hit the range....
I've loaded up about every empty case I've got and have been avoiding going to the range due to the holiday rush of all the people buying guns for the first time. Also I have been fixing a rash of flat tires that we seem to be accumulating. I'm broke, but I have a free range pass!!!
My main purpose is to evaluate 2 of my new semis for reliability in defense situations. I'm going to keeps guns at strategic places in my house, but I haven't used them enough to be confident at all. So I'll be using realistic jacketed ammo and not experiment like I usually do. I'm sure of my model 37 and third gen 9mm (which eats anything). But the Shield and the Keltec have only been shot a few times and neither seemed to like the LSWC ammo I was feeding them. No lead is going on this trip. Except after proving the jacketed rounds I'm getting about a thousand RN lead bullets that should work well in the guns for practice, but not until I check them out THOROUGHLY.

It's been so long with moving and weather since I have been to the club I am not sure I remember how to get there Going on vacation next week so its going to be at least 2 weeks weather permitting. When I do go I am going stay so long I might need to bring lunch and a cigar.
