Nothing pretentious about these places. If you go away hungry it's your own fault.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Don't they have transportation?![]()
In '79 I lived close enough to an interstate with a truck stop about 2 miles away. The ladies had channel 16 on the CB reserved for their appointments. I had a sideband base station then and could easily pick up on their chatter and special discounts when things were slow. Unfortunately they made no home deliveries.

Every time I visited my mom in Maine and asked if I could take her out to dinner, she always wanted to go to the Irving Gas station diner. They served real food liked turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy and a vegetable. Then there were the 15 or so homemade pies to choose from. Since Maine is famous for blueberries, that was always high on my list.
I remember asking a long haul trucker once how he chose which place to stop at to eat, he replied "I look for a place where all the cars are parked, that usually means the food is good".![]()
Ah, finally something for NJ to be proud of on a gun forum. We have a fine selection of greasy spoon diners.
The diner capital of the world.
A local favorite.

I agree that the food is usually pretty good, but being a neighbor of a truck stop isn't much fun.
I'm sure a few bad apples ruin it for the whole bunch but I work next to a truck stop and really get tired of piss bottles being thrown in our yard. Not to mention truckers that bring their dogs to **** on our lawn.
Truck stops might be ok, but I am not a fan of truckers.

As a trucker for many years I don't find that funny at all. It's nice when you go to a customer and are treated like a human being. That being said, it is also right to behave like one while you're there.
I would bet you were never in the Army! There was a more colloquial name for that dish. Lessee if I can do this without incurring the wrath of the moderators: we called it SOS.
