Getting Rough Around Here
From the weekly County Dispatch Report, e.g. Sheriff's Report.
"Report of a young male under the age of 3 is in shorts at Freeman Foods. Spoke with the father who went to warm the car and the boy mistook that as it was time to go. He's back with his parents and fine."
You have to love small town Iowa!
Of course there were 3 arrests, all for contempt of court, all for driving while barred.
One search warrant executed. Charges pending per DCI lab results.
Caller reports receiving a suspicious call of a girl asking for help. Called the number and spoke to a male subject who did not know anything about the message.
Weather at the time of this report was high of 20 °, snow possible and wind.
Wait till it warms up, will be getting viscious! 😕
How about your area?

This time of the year is pretty quiet here, but look out for summer,
toss thousands of party animals into a county that has a year out population of 16,000. The jail can get very busy.

Our weather is so warm, it's melting off our high altitude snowpack.
If it don't cool down and snow pretty soon, it'll end the ski season early.
Why do I care? With the oil price cratering, we need all the out of state skier tourist money we can get.
And the snowpack today is the agricultural irrigation water come summer time.
Mother Nature calls the shots.
And Don't you ever by God forget it!

We live in a small rural community of 2500 people so
the most crime we get here is DWI's, some domestic
stuff from the rednecks, and an occasional kid caught
with some dope, some petty thefts of course.
I can remember one killing from years
ago (around 1980) person shot and shooter were drunk.
This past summer had a guy from Indianapolis moved his
family out here in the country. He got depressed over some
finances and killed his wife and daughter before turning the
gun on himself.
Fairly boring and safe little town. Most folks know their neighbors.
We like it like that.

Apparently, in 2015 we had some sort of misunderstanding between several of the local gangs. End result 43 murdered, most would qualify as urban renewal and the easing of the section 8 rolls.
So far 2016 has been fairly quiet. Let’s hope it stays that way.

The little burg here is about as close to a modern-day Mayberry as you can get. Similar to the OP & Chuck's situations, but even more sedate, going by their descriptions. There are drugs around -they're everywhere now- but the police mainly sit in parking lots along the six entrances to town and make sure people coming in slow down. I say "police" as though it were plural; but there is only one on duty at any given time. The chief is widely known around the area as a top-notch investigator, but he sure doesn't get much practice.
But as Chuck said, we like things that way.

I live in very rural area, dwi's small stuff, Buffalo Ny, and Rochester Ny, are each about an hour from me, usually at least one shot/dead per day each. Erie County NY had 23 heroin deaths in 11 days starting January 29, 2016. Bad things are close, and will move this way, nature tries to fill a void.

Most of the crime news here is a depressing parade of guys beating or killing their girlfriends, or beating or killing their girlfriends' (but usually not their own) babies.
Every once in a while there is some more generalized thuggishness, some of which can get downright comical, especially when accompanied with mug shots which simply scream "Guilty".

Some lady robbed the smoke shop which is near the elementary school wich got locked down.
They caught the perp but it scared my 6 year old grandaughter enough that she didn't want to go to school Friday. I think our pop. is around 2,917 the last I knew. I live about 10 miles out of town so we don't get any action here at all. A friend of mine had a pony run away a couple of days ago so we'll be lookin around for it. Good chance to go woods bumming with some kind of direction I guess.
Peace,
Gordon

In my immediate neighborhood, it is pretty quiet except for kids stealing road signs to decorate their room.

Umm....maybe someone ought have gone to that address and actually looked things over instead of just calling the number. What was the guy who answered going to say "Oops, one of my captives slipped out of the basement"...

Probably 40 murders already this year in Memphis. Apparently around here those lives don't matter.

We have stupid Criminals Here. Some Storage Trailers were broken into at a Construction Site and the Police just followed the Foot Prints in the Snow right to the Persons House.
We also seem to have a Drug Problem in Our City and that kind of proves it.

But, according to the Hillarites, all that could be stopped if guns are outlawed....
I prefer to see it as proof for the old saying of "behind every cloud there is a silver lining"'
