Over Priced E bay items!
Where do some people get their price 's from when they sell on E Bay ?
I scan E bay a lot and have to laugh when I see some of the prices people charge for used or new items! Some 2x or more higher the retail!
I was real shocked when I saw someone selling a Alien Gear 3.0 IWB for $109.00 thought maybe a typo but he has several listings on different A.G. Holsters at that highly over priced items!
Hope people do their homework before buying lol Rant over for now!
What over priced item have you seen ?

Truthfully, the mainly only good deals on fleabay, are for DVDs and SOME movie images. I stopped even looking there about 2 years ago.

I have gotten some good deals on E bay myself! I picked up a lot of motorcycle parts! I also got some good deals on books .CDs and other items! It does pay to research lol... But I scan a lot for the laughs ! I mean there is a gut selling TALON grip tape for 2$ more the Talon sight! But I agree there are a lot of items being sold that are not worth squat!

Like W.C. fields said...There's a sucker born every day!
As a seller, you only need one, right? :-)
I have sold a few things, most lower than reg price, but eBay (and pay buddy) fees eat up the profits, so I quit.

I figure if they own it, they can ask any price they want. If somebody buys it, who is the dumb one?

Just because it's......
Just because it's on Ebay doesn't mean that it is even close to a good deal. People ask a high price because sometimes people will pay it just for the convenience of not looking further.

Once had a guy tell me you'll never sell something for crazy money unless you ask for it. Lowering your asking price is option if you have to sell.

I buy all kinds of stuff off of ebay, from holsters and grips to razor blades, diabetic supplies, vintage outdoor gear and clothes and on-and-on and ON. I,for one, find it to be a limitless resource for things I can't find locally and if I don't think it's a good deal,I don't buy it! Best thing is,I don't have to go shopping........SOMEBODY brings it to me! What's not to like about THAT?

Over the years I've bought and sold a lot. Had one issue where the person said the watch I sold was from China, not Germany. I absolutely know the watch was made in Germany and gave her some facts. She retracted her complaint.
A more recent issue, a guy tried to screw me out of $290 on an item in which he misrepresented what he was selling. He refused to take it back. I appealed to e-Bay and they sided with me. A few days later they e-mailed me that they reversed their decision and ruled in favor of the seller. I made a few calls to them (to the Phillipines I believe) raised hell, and they agreed to give me my money back. Don't know if the money was from the seller who screwed me or e-Bay. Anyway, I will be extra careful in any future transactions through them.

Some crazy asking prices on flea-bay, but no more crazy than Gunbroker-- Was looking around there for a 4" 629 barrel for a pinned gun and cannot believe some of those prices. Are people really paying those?? Wow!! Sure feel sorry for you younger guys who are really looking for stuff.

I've been a buyer and seller on eBay for almost 15 years, and yes, it has always been buyer beware. If someone pays too much, Duh! no salesperson sweet talked them into it.
If you sell too cheap buyers think the item isn't "real" I sell mostly jewelry and since my source is my pawnshop I can sell cheaper than someone sourcing from a wholesale supplier. I get questions all the time "Is it real gold?" "Are they real diamonds?"
Since all sellers get some free listings now days, it doesn't cost them anything to keep listing at high prices hoping some sucker comes along.
I can bitch about eBay a lot but it has been good to me over the years, 25-30% of my gross business income is from there.

Like dealing in any other venue it pays to do your research prior to bidding or buying.
The sellers that irritate me the most are those offering bargain basement prices, but charging highly inflated shipping & handling fees. A $20 item offered at $10 might look like a good deal before you notice the $15 flat rate shipping charge.

ebay is forcing the original sellers off to make way for the macro sellers; completely out of control. But we keep using them and they will keep using us.

The big sellers are one of my grips. And generally their customer service is terrible. Don't get me started on the China based sellers!
The high shipping isn't as widespread as it used to be, eBay now charges the seller fees on both the selling prices & the shipping. Use the search Cost + shipping.

I found old out of stock ads with a $90 retail price from 2010. Patience and lots of time watching eBay auctions over 9 months netted one NIB for ~ $65. I have seen no other examples of the same knife.
If I was not collecting slip joint knives but only needed one for my pocket I'd have been better off picking up a common knife at the hardware store.

Today I was talking about someone selling New Alien Gear 3.0 Holsters for $109.00 when A.G. sells new for like 45$ +shipping ,I have seen Talon Grip Tape being sold for 19$ + shipping and they are 17 $ direct! But I have scored some GREAT deals as well! Just pays to do research!

I have had great success buying holsters over there, latest was a new old stock Safariland OWB thumbreak brown for 10 bucks. Tight as a crab's behind, and that's watertight, but brand new and will get the double baggie treatment and be a nice addition to my collection of holsters I can't use. NJ stinks.

I have had some success with Ebay albeit rather limited to hard to find discontinued or rather obscure items. It takes a lot of patience and wading trough all the over priced stuff. In the last year I have found a set of gray 3913 grips to convert for my CS9 and a set of curved back delrin grips for my 4506 both for around $12, also found a nice NOS Bianchi Holster for my 4506 for $20.

I peruse the old guitars, amps and effect pedals quite often. The prices go from ridiculous to absurd. I bought a couple of lefty IWB holsters a while back, but I really haven't seen what I'd consider a "real deal" in years!.

Shopping eBay is kind of like shopping at gun shows. You have to know the market prices so you can recognize a bargain, otherwise you'll get taken. It requires a little effort on the shoppers part.
Shopping on eBay reminds me of the saying my dad says from time to time about fishing . . . if fishing was easy they'd call it catching.

This has a lot to do with the free listings in my opinion. People put stuff up at auction for ridiculous prices, no real indention of selling unless they find a sucker to bid on it. If it doesn't sell then they just re-list it until it does. Never any money out of the seller until it actually sells.
However, you see this also on Gun Broker and I don't believe the listings are free. Knuckleheads list stuff at higher prices than Midway or Brownells, go figure.

Ebay used to be a great place to find off the wall stuff and really good deals...that was back in the late 90's though. Now you type in an item and hit search and 42,000 of them come up...now hit auction only and it drops to 3. Everything is "buy it now" which is a shame. It's nothing more than a big box store on the web. Most things are not a good deal, rarely you might find something worth it. Like Amazon.com...way overpriced on just about everything, but way too convenient.
I really think a true "start at a penny", "no reserve", "auction only" website would do well.

Shop smart, know what the value is before you bid. Set a price limit when you bid. I bid or buy the good buys. I turn and burn on the over priced stuff. Research the prices and values before you bid. Don't bid an item till the last few minutes. Early bids drive the cost up. Watch out for the shrills
They bid against you and drive the cost up for the seller. When you bid and someone constantly bid against you be aware.

Saw a book in a shop recently for $55. Liked it but too much to pay. Checked Amazon, same book, new, $22 shipping included.

That happened to me twice same seller same auction. I spent $300.00 for two very rare original German historical photographs. At that time, total they might have been worth $40.00. However, that investment has if I sell now? has a value of about $1,000.00 for the pair. Did I over pay? yes, but I wanted them THAT badly.

I do shop and buy less frequently there. I do scoff at and do not bid on any item started with a reserve above market fair. I do not like some one insulting my intelligence nor looking at me like i owe them money. They, like I, must earn my money.
I have been known to give immediate training to some sells person who takes both their feet out of the snake oil bottle and start trampling on my sensibilities. They can give the greedy smile and ask what they want, just don't try a hard sell when I say no thanks start to walk away.
Caveat emptor for us.
Caveat venditor for the seller.
It means the seller must use caution as they are responsible for quality and service.
Evidently both issues have been around since Latin was a live and spoken language.

eCrud Pricing
I also get great deals on things. I have to be patient and not jump on the first OLD item I'm looking for. Such as Grips and Cleaning kits ETC. I buy a ton of car stuff. Even if I want the item real bad. I always do good with offers. And have only NOT received about 3-4 items in about 5 years. But PooPal always refunds me. It takes awhile but always get the refund.
In the last month I've probably bought 15-20 items. From gun stuff to car stuff.
But I can get good deals if I wait and shop the site.

Well it's just like the Classifieds on this forum. Some sellers price things so high that the items will sit there for months and probably years without any interest. I've learn that if you really want to sell something, you price it so that it sells. If you overprice then the truth is you're not really wanting to get rid of it.

Million people see the item. If only one wants it and is willing to pay the price, it is not over priced.

You can find over priced items almost anywhere, including Amazon and Wal-Mart. You need to know your values and competitive prices if you want to avoid over paying for stuff. It takes time and some research.
You often pay for the convenience of not doing your research, just as you pay for the convenience of using small stores (AKA convenience stores).
Granted some places are over priced more frequently than others, but almost all major outlets have some over priced items.

I have literally stolen Heiser, Lawrence, and Eubanks holsters on EBAY in the past because the sellers never seem to know what they have or what gun it fits. That's where my big holster collection came from. I used to steal grips and the old Smith boxes, but not so much lately.

If you don't think there are any decent deals on ebay, take a look at my
Oliver Ball holster over on the Gun Leather & Carry Gear forum.

ebay pretty much dead to me these days - haven't found a decent sale item in years.
It seems it's mostly overpriced/retail, commercial sellers these days.
Once in a while I see an item to bid on, but by the time the moronic buyers are done bidding the item is way over priced.
Guess those people have forgotten what due diligence is and just buy for the sake of buying - who knows.
Heck, talk about overpriced - people on craigslist are the real insane sellers these days.
Everything they own/sell is either "rare", "classic" or "antique" and priced ridiculously!
