Default NCIS tonight: Victory model

Tonight's episode of NCIS had a person shot with a Victory model. Abbie, the forensic person, IDed it as a WW II Victory Model 10 from 1942. Gibbs said it wasn't registered to the supposed shooter, a Navy petty officer. Was Gibbs referring to the revolver not being being registered to the sailor at his home ship or not registered in Virginia, which doesn't require registration? Who knows?

Not too bad for Hollywood.

Is this the show about the old dead sailor case , a re-run? I saw one like that a couple of seasons ago. I missed tonight 's episode. Watching NCIS New Orleans now.

I saw a very unusual S&W on, "The First 48" a few days ago. A murder gun looked to be one of those blue Bodyguard .38's with a stainless cylinder. I think they were a special order for the MI state police and maybe RCMP.

That show is a real police case series, with the real detectives, witnesses, victims, perps, etc. So, this gun was probably the real murder weapon. If I ID'd it right, what are the odds of that rare gun being so involved?

The show mentioned nothing about the make or model, let alone any unusual aspect. I doubt the cops would know, let alone the producers. They seldom mention a gun name, but you sometimes see them well enough to recognize them, if you know guns.

Anyone else notice this?

Oh, the registration bit. TV is written by anti-gunners, usually, and the NCIS star and some other cast members are also very anti-gun, Harmon included. Many of the writers come from places where guns have to be registered, and they'd like to promote that concept. So, it crops up in shows where the state involved doesn't actually register guns.

Moreover, it may be a plot device, to let the story revolve on whether they could trace a registered gun. TV is often not accurate, especially when it editorializes or needs to generate drama.

The writers probably don't even know if VA registers guns.

According to the NCIS show, I rather be a sailor or marine in Afghanistan than a sailor or marine stationed in DC or Norfolk. According to the show, sailors and marines are dropping like flies in the DC metro area.

Seems like on DC you need to register all firearms along with submitting fingerprints and having a photo taken.

I'm not sure if that shooting was in VA or DC or..... I think they just use that as a blanket statement to add drama and suspense

(I Googled gun laws in DC. Hopefully I won't see any black helicopters tonight. ........or tomorrow night! )

All "legal" guns on NCIS are registered, in the National ATF Registration Database.

Only bad guys don't have registered guns.

Well Harmon is a well known anti--- there have been more than one mistakes like that-- I turned off to watch TRUMP win VA.
NO registration required here. The fool we have in Richmond would like to have it but it isn't going to happen.

Don't know but I do know I had to register my firearms with my Air Force base in Idaho in 1969. So guessing it is a military requirement.

Was that way when I was in as well, and it was kept in the armory, but Gibbs was leading to the fact it was a STATE requirement. BS in VA of course.

You can't trust anything you hear about guns on fictional TV shows. Even the infallible NCIS GIbbs gets it wrong - always.
One of my close friends is a medical examiner in a large city and she won't watch any of the TV programs where the ME "solves" the case by saying something like "It's a small caliber bullet wound, probably a thirty-eight," after a glance at the vic's skin. (eg: Castle)
And I'm with Philadelphia Patriot: any sailor or marine in the DC area should run for his/her life to the nearest battle zone.

Seem to recall a early NCIS episode where one of the characters quipped 'Well, we live in a time where you can order an AK off the internet'.

I always liked that Navy Commander who was killed with a 25mm Tokarev

And then the time the woman was killed "by" an OLD OLD 32 ACP, because there was MOLD on the bullet. Had to be an old gun, because it was an old bullet. No one could shoot an old bullet in a new gun. Not possible.

Does mold grow on lead? I know old lead will oxidize, and turn white, but MOLD?

Based on my limited experience, this is the closest to the truth.

[RANT]While I don't ordinarily dismiss conspiracy theories, particularly those ascribed to the various moral misfits who populate Hollywood, in this case, I believe that ignorance and stupidity (the two are often related, sometimes causally and sometimes casually) account for that particular error of presumption. My own sister, who is not particularly anti-gun, once made some similar remark, like "Of course, they're registered, I hope." At the time, the state of reference was probably Virginia. But that's how people from NYC think. Not just about guns, but about EVERYTHING. Hollywood is not different. Those are the two "centers," or, for the occupants, "epicenters" of the civilized world. The rest is "fly-over" country, where the peons live. They don't know, because they don't want to know, about how things are done anywhere else.[/RANT]

Just an innocent error, based on not-so-innocent ignorance.

People out here in flyover country think the same way, unfortunately. Can't count the number of times that I've been asked to give handling advice to someone about his/her pistol, which is "registered and everything, you know . . . " Love the quizzical look when I say "No, it's not."
