Best Local Beers....
Living in Paradise, CA we are about 15 minutes away from Sierra Nevada Brewery. I know it's gone beyond local, but pretty darn good with a variety to choose from.

We have 26 breweries in Colorado Springs at last count. At about 4-5 different taps each, it takes me all week just to have one of each

Having been born in Munich...
I might be a tad parochial about what I consider to be drinkable beer. Those who have had the pleasure of touring Germany on Uncle Sam's dime might remember a few of these.

Loomis Basin has my thumbs up
In the bay area there were several local ones, but two that I liked. I remember going to Gordon Biersch after soccer practices when it was small and quaint, now look at them! Loved their Hefeweizen. The beer was better at the Brewery than the bottles you buy in the store. There was also the Tied House which had a great selection that changed all the time. Close to us now there are two really good breweries, Loomis Basin Brewing Co. that has some hoppy beers that I like in the hot summer and Dragas which opened last year. There are some others too that we haven't tried. I really like the character and beers at Loomis Basin and when I find something I like I am less motivated to try other places.

I am pretty ambivalent about most of Sierra Nevada's offerings. They're OK, certainly better than fizzy yellow Frankenbeer from the Mini-mart. Having said that, I adore Sierra Nevada Porter. Lip smacking malty-roasty goodness. I have only ever seen it in 18 oz. bombers and then almost never around here. My go to store got 5 cases of this loveliness a while back and I bought them all. I don't know why it's so hard to come by, but it's probably best that it is.

Man, where do I start? There are over 200 breweries in this state.
Probably the most notable are;
Redhook
Mack and Jacks
If you count Oregon as local, we have the Deschutes Brewery in Bend. Excellent beer.

Regionally, we have quite a few breweries here in NY. Locally, there are a hand full of pretty good micro breweries in the city. One of the stand outs is called Middle Ages brewery.

Even though I live in Ohio, I too like the Yuengling brewery outta PA. Very good beers, for semi mass produced product.
When I want a true local brew, I head to Ohio City (just west across the Cuyahoga river from downtown Cleveland) and have a Great Lakes Brewery draft from the garden or visit a couple of the mom & pop micro breweries near West Side Market. They make some good beers on West 25th st.

Remember
When Samuel Adams first started selling "Boston Lager"
They brewed most of it in Pittsburgh's Iron City Brewery

Summit Extra Pale Ale, brewed in Saint Paul, MN.crisp, slightly hoppy, but not overwhelmingly so.
I have taken this beer on the road and put it up against some pretty stiff competition. For example, a bunch of Colorado beer snobs armed with an impressive array of microbrews and home brews,p. almost to a man, the preferred Summit.
On another occasion, I went trail riding near Big Sky with an expatriate Minnesota buddy, his best friend from Livingston, and another guy from Arizona. After the ride, my pal asked me what was in my cooler. It was Summit and Sam Adams.
"Let's drink the Summit, those guys can drink that other ****."
My favorite change of pace is Bell's Two-Hearted, from Kalamazoo. Similar, but different.

Here in Anaheim, there is a brewing renaissance. I live a couple blocks from Anaheim brewery, so I go there frequently. (They are very local and hard to find outside of Orange County). Great hefe, and many others. A new brewery is opening across the park from them this summer.
Golden Road just opened across from the stadium, but they recently sold out to one of the majors. Noble ales is really good and specializes in a bunch of stouts and porters that I like. We also have Bottle Logic a few miles away, and they always have exciting beers on tap. Up the street from them is Valient Brewing, but they mostly brew hoppy IPA style ales, that aren't my style.
Then a few miles away in Fullerton, you have the Rue family's Bruery. Great beers, and that place keeps expanding. Around the corner from them is Bootleggers brewery. They have great stouts.
So plenty of good beer nearby.

Last month, I was in New Albany, IN on some personal business. My wife and I met my brother and sister-in-law at the Floyd County Brewing Company. Great craft beers, especially the dark ale; and great food!

Living in the Philly burbs, I love me some Victory Brewing and Troegs...who are two of the big ones. Lots of smaller brewers like Tired Hands that are putting out some outstanding beers.

There are a plethora of microbreweries hereabouts, too - probably far too many for what the market can support. Most of them are . . . okay.
We have a world-class beer, though: La Cumbre's Elevated IPA, which actually took GABF Gold in the category. Some of their others (their ongoing Project Dank, for instance) are pretty cerebral, but I'm not being chauvinistic when I say, as an IPA aficionado, Elevated is the best IPA I've ever had. (And the out-of-state IPA fan friends with whom I share them and the rating sites seem to agree.)

But I loathe the can art.

Being Irish on my maternal side (a Brady and a Kelly), my ancestors would haunt me forever if I drank something named "Black and Tan". I could expect a visit from Michelle (pronounced Me-hell-la), the Brady family bhean sidh

Alabama is getting blessed with local brewers. Appears we get a new one every 6 months or so. Straight to Ale in Hunstville is my favorite and love the tasting room. All time best ever - Cigar City in Tampa tasting room. They have stuff that is the best I ever drank that is only available in the tasting room. Love the micro brewery tasting rooms. Wow. no wonder Budweiser is loosing ground.

My house beer, despite the fact that I live in the middle of Oregon micro-brew country.
Their tour is the best. All free, and if you walk out of the tasting of six to eight different beers at the end, and you are still legal to drive, you took a wrong turn somewhere.

A few MN choices:
August Schells, makes several beers that still taste like beer. Currently they have a seasonal dark German Alt bier called Schmaltz Alt that is quite tastey. They also bought the rights to the old Grain Belt brand, and brew that as well.
The previously aformentioned Summit. They have a Great Northern Porter that is very nice, as well as a good crisp Pilsner.
And then there is Surly. Most of their brews appeal to those looking to see how many pounds of hops a brewer can fit in a can, but they have a Helles style that is very well done, and doesn't leave you with that turpentine taste in your mouth for a day or 2......

Colorado is "over flowing" with local breweries (yes, pun intended ).
I'm a very light drinker so a bit particular when I do have a cold one. My current favorite is 90 Shilling by Odel Brewing. Quite tasty.

This is really local, 2 blocks down the street.
The Coco Chocolate Stout is quite tasty and so is their Smokin' Red. And they always make a special summer brew too.
The West O Beer is a local success story

So we were up for the birthday party and in a little place just outside Milwaukee. I asked the lady if they had any locally brewed beers I could try.
She just kinda cocked her head to the side, looked at me like I was a da and said "Miller, Miller Lite.

Have not had a Moose Drool in a long time. Thanks for sharing. On the way to WY in October and I will be drinking some Moose Drool while there. One more great beer.

Best thing about traveling is sampling the local brew. I will ask somebody in trhe grocery/liquor store for a good one and go from there. When I was in Wisconsin, I drank New Glarius Farmhouse Ale. Something about having cows on the bottles.....

My boy just bought me up a 6 OK of Devil Anse Hatfield beer
from down in West by Gawd Virginia. A very tasty brew.

Devils Backbone Vienna Lager out of Lexington Va is one of my favorites and about 3 miles down the road from my house is Center Of The Universe (COTU) brewery that has some really great beers also my favorite being Chin Music. Not big on the IPA's, and when I lived in louisianna my favorite was Abita.

They have a lager called "Spotted Cow" that has a bit of a cult following. Because of the arcane liquor laws in MN, it is not available for distribution in state. So, an enterprising bar owner started driving cross border for some. Word got out, and a raid went down......... SMH......
