Guy Eating Korean War Rations!
Hey guys! Check this out:
This is a cool channel on YouTube were this guy tastes all these old military rations, some dating from WW2. He tries almost everything, some of which still tastes great many decades later, some... not so much! Very cool and interesting either way. I stumbled on it tonight and thought others might want to see this.

Steve's a crazy guy I've talked to him a few times in the comments section and I subscribe to his channel.
There's two other guys who try MRE's and know Steve and have had stuff either passed on to them by him or they went and tried the same things he has-the results are amusing
One guy lost it on some civil defense crackers,I'd never have thought crackers could be so bad but...there you go.
Here's the crackers, the guy is gundog it takes a few minutes as he opens some 50's era water first.

I found an unopened Coke in the attic area of an old grocery story I worked in as a teen in the 70's. Had to have been bottled in the 50's. It tasted like doodoo.

As long as the cans are intact and not swollen, it should be good.
I wish I could find a supply of the old C Rations. I ate a bunch of 'em between 1972 & 75 courtesy of Uncle Sam. Some of them were actually pretty good and they last darn near forever.
I've tried the current MREs. Meh, it'll keep ya going.
The problem with these is the shelf life is only about 5 years.
I bought some back in 1999 before the Y2K scare. Happened to think about them in 2010 and opened a couple up. WHOA! What a mess! The only food items still edible were the crackers.

There's a few food channels I follow and have both a great deal of fun watching and finding out about new stuff, but they also do some old stuff, like this it's called "is it expired?" and here they try 21 year old skittles....

Steve's opened up the bulged cans, talk about scary,it's amazing what happens to canned fruit forty odd years on
I don't think he's eaten anything out of a c-rat except the crackers and the peanut butter,I know he's eaten some chocolate candy from the 50's.
Oh yea,the tinned cheese spread is always a horror show when you pop it open after a few decades.

The tinned cheese sorta keeps the "John Wayne" crackers company!

Ham and Lima beans were grounds for desertion.

Sarge Bill said his unit were eating WWI rations, this was in the mid 80s. I've had Campbell's soup that were at least 25 years old. Still good as long asx can not rusted or had holes. Suger and Chocolate never goes bad, neither does honey. All else? I dunno. Water doesn't go bad unless in intense heat and in plastic container.

When we bought my wife's paternal grandfathers farm I found a can of home canned of what appeared to be peaches in a dark corner of the basement.
we knew she moved off the farm about 1966 after her husband passed. So this was 44 years old.
They were in a glass jar and looked good. Got me to wondering how lolng home canned stuff lasts.
As long as the seal and vacuum has not been broken it will last a long, long time.
I found a site on line where this had been tested. Quite often home canned stuff is found in old homes. A jar of corn that was dated in the 50's was taken to a lab, it tested negative on any bad stuff. A volunteer cooked and ate them, said they tasted fine and he could not have told the difference between it and a new can at the store.
My Dad brought back things from his WW2 days. I have most of them, he had some cigarettes from France and North Africa I think.
There may be 4 packs, he had opened all of them and had tested one.
I'm home one day and ran out of pipe tobacco, I did not want to run to town, I grabbed his 20MM ammo can and pulled out a 20 some year old cig. It tasted like bad soap, not as good as the Lifebouy Ma stuck in our mouth. I spit it out. Did not bother to sample any others.
Now food can be run through a Nuclear setup and in sealed plastic bags beef has a 20 year life.
