Purchased with 7K in excellent condition in 2010.

2010 CTS 3.0

click noises started after warranty was up (go figure). in the dash on the passenger side….and would eventually go away. Seemed to changed with AC controls.

then it changed to hearing various actuating noises in the dash that would eventually minimize or we turn up the radio. again centered around AC on or off…it would change pitch of the noise or go away.

now, 45K….there is a high RPM ratcheting or flapping noise in the center in the dash. if you move the AC vent to the floor….it goes away?

is this just a switch or sending unit issue that a scanner would find?

or am I looking at something major with the dash having to be removed?

great car….the ffffffnnnnn noises in the dash are a no go!!

thanks in advance

A friend had similar noises in his F150. Turned out to be a broken plastic actuator wheel in the dash that opens and closes vent doors to direct the air as called for. The noise came from the wheel trying to open the door but failing. Part was cheap, labor, not so much. They had to remove the dash.

Have no idea what's causin' the problem, but yes,it will be a major expense regardless. It's a Cadillac. For example,I've had to replace the front turn signal bulb on both sides in my wife's SRX. Cost for the bulb? About $10 bucks. Cost for the labor? $160 bucks! They have to remove the whole damned quarter panel to replace a freakin' bulb!

Not sure how to explain it but the motor that controls ac/heat has a little "door" that closes or opens depending on what you have set. That door is broken off it's base but it's still trying to move cause you changed from heat to AC or vice versa. That also controls where the AC blows.

Had this on a 94 Lexus LS400. I don't know how the Caddy is but to fix it on the Lexus required the removal of the while dash board and then a few parts from the engine side of the fire wall. Took me 2 days to do

Sounds like the actuator door caniffiling, du dangle. widget thingy

I had a RAT eat through the AC door on one of my cars. The flap that controls fresh/recycled air, Insurance would pay for it. I just left it and took the money. The whole dash needs to come out!

My son's GMC pickup has similar problem. He says the stepper motor that controls the door loses its home position and will sit there and cycle on and off. He said he could reset the home position and get rid of it for a little while but it would come back. He doesn't work on cars for a living anymore, but he was an ASE certified master mechanic at 19 so I know he know cars. He just had trouble folding up his 6'2" 240 lb body into the new car crannys and got away from them.
