do not want to sell my charcoal grill short , still love how it puts that charcoal flavor into meat . but i gotta say the burgers ( ground chuck ) cooked in an iron skillet can't be beat !
a lil story ..... just yesterday i was pondering my evening meal . was gonna eat out ( live alone when lady friend is not here ) and decided not much out sounded good to me . swung into the butchers shop for some fresh chuck . cooked on low medium topped with lettuce onion & fresh sliced garden tomato ,

& made a bountiful amount of fresh french fries , absolutely delicious !
got 3 wagoner iron skillets the x wife left behind and they do fried stuff real justice . would not part with them !

I prefer skillet burgers. Cooked a few night before last...

When the mood strikes, nothing in the world can take the place of a good old fashioned medium-rare burger topped with your choice of fixings. I dearly love a good cheese burger on a fresh bun, with tomato and red onion. Serve with a big dill pickle and ICE COLD glass of whole milk.

Fries or onion rings are nice but not necessary..

Cast iron cookware has come out of the hunting camps and grandma's
Kitchen and into the trendiest restaurants/homes/kitchens. People are realizing that once seasoned correctly it is the finest cookware one can use. We cook almost everything on cast iron.

I always wanted to try putting a deep iron skillet on the stove with some charcoal on the bottom, a grate over top and meat on top. Not even sure that would work

Cast iron burgers are great. Grilled burgers are too.

Easy and economical. I'm not gonna fire up the grill on a hot or rainy day just for me.

I can also make a steak in a cast iron that will blow your mind. Nothing fancy but perfect.

Cast iron cooking is good when you know how. There's something about it that you can't do with Teflon no stickums.

Glazing or browning you could say.

Even small amounts of charcoal burning produce large amounts of carbon monoxide which will kill you quickly in an enclosed space.

Due to major construction in my home, I've been without a functioning kitchen since May. (Don't ask.) Well, my nightmare is almost over: My cabinets are being installed this week, and on Monday my new countertop and sink will be installed.

On Monday night, I'm going to cook a nice meal at home for the first time in months...and you've given me a great idea! Thanks! :)

I like to make an onion smash burger on cast iron. Good blend of chuck 80/20...salt and pepper both sides. Put in hot skillet and put a heaping of thinly sliced onion on top and smash down with press. Turn burger and throw on some good American cheese. Cook to medium rare/medium and put on a good potato roll.

When I make hamburgers at home, it's either on the Foreman or in my non-stick skillet.

I've got a cast iron skillet, but it's reserved for those rare occasions when I make fried chicken.

I've got a hideously awful kitchen, so pretty much ANY actual "cooking" is a painful experience.

Last night I pan seared to a perfect medium rare some butterflied pronghorn antelope backstrap steaks in a sage brown butter sauce in one of my cast iron fry pans. For searing it is hard to beat a well cured cast iron fry pan. I just don't know how anyone can get by with just teflon non stick pans.
