Anchovies : Love em' or hate em'?
Love em'
Pizza's (made at home) or ordered. Incorporated into many
Italian dishes, and sauces, raw or cured, depending on the application.
Phenomenal flavor, and will consent, it is in some cases an
in your face acquired taste.
I can work them into many Italian and Mediterranean dishes that I can't count.
A delicacy, that in some applications are only detected as a background flavor that can't be identified as to what it is.
By the recipient of the meal.
Are you a fan, I am all day!

Love 'em. I do a butterflied leg of lamb recipe that includes making a paste from olive oil, Herbs de Provence, garlic, and anchovies. The paste is spread over the butterflies leg of lamb, then the leg is rolled up and tied and then baked at 350. Absolutely delicious, and the anchovies are absolutely needed. The recipe doesn't use the whole can of anchovies, so I happily eat the left over anchovy filets.

Anchovies are great for catching Yellowtail and Albacore tuna. Just pop out one eye, hook em thru the nose and hang on. They'll swim in circles and then BAM...fish on. Caught many big fish when we lived in San Diego. Just never really thought of them as food......

I largely view them as either bait, or an ingredient in finished food.
I don't drink anymore -or any less- [rimshot], but my college-years Bloody Mary mix was legendary. This was due, in large part, to the secret anchovies thrown in the blender.
I DO use anchovies in my main BBQ sauce recipe, as they pair surprisingly well with steak.
I have also heard rumors of an award-winning chili that used anchovies as part of the successful strategy.

Dogs love a little fish but their breath is another thing.
Ever had fileted pilchards?
Me neither. There's a reason for that. They're bait!

I worked in a pizza parlor while in college. One time, three high schoolers came in and ordered, "We'll have a medium pepperoni and.... um.. anchovy pizza." I asked, "Have you ever had anchovies?" They replied, "Yes, we have them all the time." I went back, put the pepperoni on, added the anchovies, then poured the anchovy juice all over the top of the pizza. Their order went out, and several minutes later they left. I went out to clear their table and there were exactly three slices taken out of the pizza. On the plates were the three slices taken out of the pizza with only one or two bites out of each slice. I concluded that they didn't really "have them all the time."

I like them on salads or just on a soda cracker.
Usually take a few tins to hunting camp to eat on crackers with a cold beer while sitting around the camp-fire at night while we all tell jokes and lie about how big the deer was that wouldn't give us a shot.

I will always cherish the candlelit dinner at a very upscale restaurant during which my young bride mistook an anchovy on a Caesar salad for a small strip of bacon. I had already eaten mine, and was blamed for failing to enlighten her . . .

I love 'em on a Caesar, but I don't need the whole can. Two or three will do. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
I order them on pizza only rarely, because I usually get the whole can.

My wife liked them on pizza so we would get them put on one half of the pizza. I could taste them horrible tasting things on my half that didn't have any on it.
I don't like any kind of little fishes or their eggs for that matter. To salty and overwhelming strong flavor for me.

I've liked sardines since I was a toddler, some 80 yeas ago (long story here which I will spare you). Now I eat my sardines on tostadas, and next I'm going to try anchovies there too. I'll bet they'll be delicious.

Frozen anchovies are the most popular and effective natural bait for striped bass at Lake Powell and Lake Mead. There are two-piece bait hooks made especially for them. Two pound bags sold at all of the marinas.
I'd never think of eating one, but I'm not a fan of fishy-tasting fish anyways.

The club I belong to at our monthly meetings we have Pizza the guy that orders it likes anchovies, we usually get four big sheet Pizza's, one time he put anchovies on all four, he took 3.5 of them home, now he can only put them on one and he has to mark the box with a sharpie in big letter's ANCHOVIES.

I am not much of a wine drinker, except for the right occasion or with the right food. Anchovies are excellent served on fresh roasted red bell peppers and a few roasted jalapenos, to add some color and a kick to the anchovies, I like to add some sliced red onions with mine. All this served on some crackers or a nice crunchy baguette, and a nice glass of red wine. ( Not chilled, and no wine glass).
All this is making my stomach growl. OOOPS, never-mind, I guess it was gas!!

My wife keeps a few tins of the Brunswick brand stashed.
She has no desire to be around when I peel the lid.
I have to find my own smoked clams in a can.

I love anchovies on pizza.
I first had them on a pizza in the long gone "Shakey's" chain in the Chicago area.
Like "Wimpy's" hamburgers, I think they still survive in the UK.

Shakey's was awesome, back in the 70's there was one in our neighborhood that had an all you can eat type buffet deal, they had the best tasting baked chicken and potatoes. Yummm!!

Yuck
When I was a kid they were commonly put on fully loaded pizzas, sold at true Italian restaurants. You'd have to request them NOT on your pizza. But when the fast food pizza dumps became popular, I'd order a pizza and say No Anchovies, they'd look at me like I was CRAZY!
My dad loved them and sardines. He'd eat sardines on crackers with a dash of Hot Sauce. And wanted anchovies on his pizza. Yuck!
No anchovies or sardines for me! I want my fish either battered and deep fried or baked. No exceptions!!!

Absolutely love anchovies, but much prefer the large cans of salt-packed anchovies from Italy (photo below - that can is about 5" diameter) that you have to fillet yourself. Much better flavor than the little cans or jars that you see in the markets. The best brand is Agostino Recca - worth seeking out if you have a real Italian grocery anywhere close (mine is in Boston's North End, about a 2-hr drive south and, of course, behind enemy lines for a gun enthusiast).
Also love sardines, pilchards, and canned/jarred fishy things of almost any kind, particularly sill (pickled herring) in just about all of its many varieties. The Nordic store is thankfully a good bit closer than the salumeria.

I have them on pizza once a year to remind myself why I don't like them.

Like "Wimpy's" hamburgers, I think they still survive in the UK.

I miss Shakey's. My parents would take us to Shakey's on shopping trips to the "big city" (St Cloud MN). Good pizza, better times.

I'll sometimes begin a pasta sauce by cooking a couple of anchovy filets with chopped garlic in good olive oil. The anchovies melt into the oil and add a rich, indefinable flavor to the finished sauce..
I've been known just to toss hot pasta with the anchovy-garlic oil, top it with Parmesan cheese and black pepper, and dive in.

I often do the same except throw 2 or 3 ounces of sriracha in and top with Asiago. Put that next to a Caesar salad and we're entering "last meal" territory.
