Default Question about scope reticle

I have a Nikon Buckmaster II scope on my 700 and have noticed that my reticle often "washes out" at certain magnifications depending on what distance the target is at.. Not sure if that would be due to the optic or my eye so does anybody know if this is normal or if there is a way to fix it? Not sure if there is any way to focus it or not, but asides from that issue, the image seems clear through it.
Thanks

I own only fixed magnification scopes.

In over 50 years of hunting, I've never needed or wanted a different magnification on a scope.

Mine range from 4x to 2.5x.

I've shot a lot of game with these.

There should be an eyepiece adjustment on it to help focus the crosshairs.

have you played with the focus on the eyepiece at the back of the scope? loosen the nut and just twist away until it is in good focus at the point it is washing out and then check all the setting. Side note- I have learned over the years that most of the increase in price in scope can be justified. Nikon is a great brand but lower price an any of them means compromise of quality over the more expensive ones in any manufactures line.

Point your scope (on an unloaded rifle!!!!) at a blank light colored wall, or at a clear sky, and turn the eye piece until the cross hairs are in the best focus for your eye. That is the recommended way to handle that focus situation for all distances and magnifications. If the problem persists, then there may be other problems with the scope or with your eyes. You should be able to contact Nikon and get an opinion from them about your problem.

If the eye relief is not correct the slightest change may make the cross hairs disappear.
