King size bed frame and mattresses- Big Guys
I am 6'03" 280lbs
Looking for a value priced heavy duty king size bed frame
and decent mattress for someone like me.
Not looking for anything expensive, but the best value for my $$$.
I have not had luck in the past with my queen size mattresses I have purchased. Hell no to pillow tops. No sleep # bed....out of my price range.
Not sure if firm or soft or in between. I would like to hear from fellas my size to see what you got and if you like it.
I only plan to get a frame and the mattress/box spring set (ha, if they still make box springs)
I did a search on the net, but did not locate any positive info.
Thanks in advance

Can be frustrating buying "good" beds that you try for a while in the store, only to wake up in pain the next day. We finally got the Sleep Number (Select Comfort) bed 25 years ago, and are still happy with it. Hubby is bigger and taller than you, and very happy with it. I know you ruled them out, but in the future, if you've bought some beds that don't work out, they may still have a one month trial period to test it and see if you think it's worth it.
Good luck.

I recently bought a bedframe, box springs, and mattress. Don't recall brands. What I noticed is that the frame did not have enough slats to feel right, fully stable enough, to me.
So I measured and bought an additional six or so boards and stuck 'em in. Feels better to me.

Just replaced our 13 year old sleep number with a Original Mattress factory mattress. I have used their mattresses on a number of beds in our home and over the years a number of house guests commented on how well they slept.
They are all around the country not sure about your area, fairly priced.

Forego the box springs and build your own box frame with 2x12(10) and 3/4" plywood.
Seen a good mattresses at Costco i think it was 700 buck so but could be wrong.
I am not lucky enough to get in bed at night as the dog hogs it. LOL

Is there a Big Lots in your area? Got a queen size from them 3 years ago for $300. I'm 6' and 240.

One way to get even support if you are a big guy is to buy a basic water bed frame and out a mattress on it.

We now have a sleep # but the best mattress we ever had before this was a Bassett, we liked it so much we went out and bought one for the spare bedroom, the only problem we had was when anyone stayed over they didn't want to go home.

You need a California King. But it ain't gonna be cheap.
As big as you are, you need a good bed. Cheap beds that wear out fast can cause physical problems.
Don't forget to rotate the mattress.

I think the suggestion to build your own frame, with 3/4" plywood as the platform, or a waterbed frame, is pretty good.
I have a bed in my cottage that has drawers underneath and is essentially a plywood platform. A big plywood sheet, well supported beneath, is where you put the mattress. No box springs. The mattress is not that thick, but one of those "memory foam" ones that conforms to your shape. It is quite comfortable...
I bet you could get a regular bed frame, add additional slats if needed, add one or two or three 3/4" sheets of plywood so as to make a solid platform, and stick a mattress of your choice on top.
I like a firm mattress, and think that ones that are too soft, especially for big guys, are not comfortable.

Best beds I have owned have been Sealy Posturepedic's. I'm on my 2nd one (ex wife kept the first). You can always check craigsllst and see if anyone is offering a fairly new one at a decent price.

We have a Sealy hybrid, which is a regular mattress with a memory foam top. Pretty good bed, in four years it does show some depressions. Not terribly thrilled with it but it's OK. Wouldn't buy another for what it cost.
We bought a bed-in-a-box online for the guest room. It's a memory foam that comes all compressed in a box. They are pretty reasonable. I think it came from Sears but lots of people sell them. I think if I wanted the best bed on a budget I'd build the plywood platform the guys above suggested and then buy one of those. I've slept on it a couple of times (don't ask ) and I think I like it better than the Sealy. We bought a frame for it online too. A fold-up wire grid looking thing.
(I'm 6' 3"- 250#)

I always cruse the discount/last year model section of our local furniture stores. I've done pretty good there on mattresses.
p.s. One of the local stores has a sleep diagnostic machine where you lay down on and feed it some info on weight, sleep style etc, and it tells you what type mattress you'll sleep best on. All the times I've tried it and seen it tried, it steers heavier people towards firmer mattresses. Have to say, I don't think it was is wrong. I myself slept better on a extra firm pillow top mattress when I was 240.
