Default Strange things in the basement

There was a thread awhile back about ghosts and strange happenings. But this just happened to me.

I was reloading in my basement cave. The wife calls me to take the garbage out or some such thing. I came back pulled a load of powder, weighted and it's right on, so I load 5 more rounds and the last one there is just enough powder to cover the bottom of the case. so I check again, same results. The powder canister had been turned off. I had already loader about fifty before being called away so it got turned off after I left. So I loaded another case measured it and the scale didn't balance, It had been set at 3.6gs. of Universal. the scale was set at 4.8gs.

This like the second or third time this has happened, The only person that was in the room when I left was the cat. and she doesn't have thumbs and I think she likes me, I do feed her.

The house was built in 1950. and a addition was built in the late 50's. the addition included and addition of a basement. the Basement addition in a separate room. My wife has said she saw a women in a long white dress and long dark hair walk from the addition into the basement; my youngest said the same thing. I have never seen anything and have never felt uncomfortable in my shop. Just weird stuff happen, things get moved, like across the room. I try to keep things taken care of, easier to find things that way, I have had tools that I don't use often take off the peg board an end up on the bench. My dog will come to visit me but she just wants her ears scratched and leaves. the Cat she just lays where ever she want and stares into a corner of the run. Maybe there was a different house built on the same spot and that house had ghosts.

So am I crazy? or have a ghost? or just a strange imagination?

I was always lead to believe that animals were receptive to the presence of spooks and such.
Maybe a game camera might help your suspicions?
Interesting thread, if nothing else.

Sounds pretty benign. Somebody's trying to get your attention. Try talking nice to her, him, it and say hello and ask would she mind putting your tools back when she's finished with them. When setting your powder dropper, tell her out loud you need that thing to stay set the way it is if you have to step away from your loading table. Ask nice, she was probably there first. Only your wife will think you're nuts, but if she's anything like mine, she already does.

I live in a house on 2 acres with a big old barn where the original construction occurred in 1888-89 .. all the beams and studs are true dimension lumber of oak .. the house is a 2 story that has been added to as the original family grew .. the property has a bunk house with a 2 stall outhouse attached and a very large barn and small buildings ..

We have "The Blue Lady" dressed in a long flowing dress that looked from the turn of the century .. I have seen her more then my wife .. Just a fleeting glimpse .. like someone moving behind a tree .. a door suddenly slamming shut in the barn when we're out side when there is no wind .. the feeling that someone is watching from a window in a bedroom on the 2nd floor .. drapes opened when we had shut them .. lights turned on when we come home that were not on when we left ..
a cellar light that will turned be on at least once a month ..

One area in the dinning room that tends to be 5 to 8 degrees cooler when you walk through it but if you stop and turn and walk back no difference in temperature then .. My GSD will stand and stare at the middle of the living room sometimes at night when the lights are out in the room .. she'll then come over to me at my computer desk staying between me and the living room and acting like she wants to be reassured everything is ok .. she'll continue to glance back toward the door while I'm petting her .. can last a couple of minutes up to 15 her acting that way .. she'll finally lay down ..

A person who was related to the couple who originally owned this place said a Great Grand Mother died in one of the up stairs bedrooms sometime around the 1900's .. she has a picture of her in a long flowing "BLUE DRESS" ..

For ghosts supposedly not being real there sure are a lot of people experiencing and seeing things that aren't there.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

Though I'm a skeptic in many ways, and generally rational, I have no problem with the idea of ghosts, for a number of reasons. I suspect they generally reflect unfinished business.

I'm afraid I have a more down to earth explanation, and I hope you don't take offense. You allowed yourself to be interrupted while reloading.

Well who are you going to call?

We use to have a ghost cat in the house. I don't see it much anymore.

My mother died in this home. She may still be here. Some things just happen that can't be explained.

A small boy visited here once. He asked my son who was standing in the corner. I never found out if he saw a man or woman or any details.

Apparently he could see ghosts and there is a ghost in his home as well.

Default Can't say for sure.

I think there are too many similar incidents to merely dismiss them outright. I would also never launch into a personal attack against anyone who says they have experienced a para-normal event. Too many credible people have incredible events in their lives.

Unfortunately, many of the people used on TV shows about the paranormal seem to be missing most of their teeth and generally appear like asylum escapees, therefore, lacking credibility.

The world is a graveyard. Approximately 100 billion people have lived and died over the past 10,000 years or so. There's probably hardly a place you can stand where people live, that someone hasn't died. You'd think if ghosts were real we'd be up to our necks in them. Wouldn't every hospital and nursing home be full of ghosts? Every old major city like Cairo or London? Hiroshima? Auschwitz?

many of the places you have listed do have many reports of super natural occurrences that can not be readily explained .. there are photographs of ghostly apparitions that were not there when the picture was taken ..

many old state hospitals where the mentally lacking individuals were shuttled away from their families and society almost all of these have had ghosts and other physic happenings

The hospital grounds at Illinois Hospital for the Incurable Insane are the subject of local ghost lore. One well documented legend tells of Manuel A. Bookbinder "Old Book", a patient who worked with the burial crew at the hospital until his own death. It is said that upon his death his physical form was seen by Dr. Zeller and over a hundred of the patients and nurses that attended his funeral crying at the old elm in the potters field. A closer inspection of the casket for which he rested showed the peaceful remains of the loved figure still resting within, thus the legend of the "Graveyard Elm" began.[5

to turn a blind eye to all of this is just saying your not going to deal with it .. doesn't mean it doesn't happen or isn't real !!

Good point, Tom.
Why would just a few ghosts get preferential treatment?

I think that not all spirits or souls cross over. Most do and that is why we don't see the millions that have died before us. I do believe that some very strong willed folks that die unexpectedly may possibly hang around trying to deal with some unresolved issue.

The other two possibilities are time travelers or folks from another dimension. There are scientists that believe that there are many more dimensions yet undiscovered.

I also forgot to add the poop ( word cleaned up for forum decorum) fairies. Known all to well in the construction trade. Those are the little gremlins that make sure that every hose, cord or rope gets caught on everything every time you try to drag it to a new location. They would just love messing with your reloading settings.

Seem to recollect someone else who was haunted by a blue dress...

I have had too many experiences, throughout my life, to discount others stories.

The house that Mrs Dumpstick lived in, prior to our marriage, had an unseen 'resident', seemingly benign. She would talk to it all the time, particularly when it would turn off lights, or turn on the TV.
I never spoke to it, figured it wasn't my place.

Just one of many, many stories.

Default The Ghost That Harassed Al Capone

While serving his first jail sentence in Eastern State Prison, Capone was allegedly frequently harassed by the ghost of James Parker, one of the victims of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Other inmates could here Capone screaming in fear.

That Capone was tormented by something is quite well documented. Whether it was a ghost or a figment of his imagination---who knows.

I've had a few bazaar experiences in my life. The first one was when I was a kid, my grandmother had died and my mother brought some things that she owned over to our house. One item was a large yellow candle which was placed in our den. At night we would light the candle during our family TV viewing sessions. When it was time to go to bed the candle would be blown out and we would always wet our fingers and dampen the wick to make sure it was extinguished. One night I stayed up late, the candle was left burning while everyone went upstairs to bed. I watched TV for a while longer and then decided to go to bed myself, I blew the candle out and dampened the wick. I went into my room which joined the den by a short hallway. I usually sleep with my door closed but for some reason that night I left it open, I turned off all the lights and fell asleep. In the middle of the night I was awaken by a light coming from the den. My first thought was did someone come down from upstairs for some reason, I laid in my bed waiting to hear someone making noise, but I heard nothing. From my bed I could see the light change intensity from bright to being dim. I knew... got out of bed and walked into the den to be greeted by my grandmother's candle flickering back and forth. No wind from within the den to cause this flickering. I blew the candle out and dampened the wick again. Returned to my room and closed the door, jumped into bed totally frightened. The candle was discarded after a few more long burnings and I was glad to see it go.

Here's another one, this one is about my father who I was very close too. Basically, he was more than a father he was my hero and best friend. I was living over 2,000 miles away from home at the time. I was in excellent physical shape, but one early morning I woke up with a terrible pain in my chest. I thought of my father and wondered if he was alright, it was around 2 AM. I never felt so bad, got out of bed and made it to the bathroom. There I hung over the sink in agony, washed my face with cold water and started to feel better. Finally, I went back to bed and fell asleep. The next morning I was told to go to our orderly room, when I arrived I was told to call home because of an emergency, which I did. I spoke to my mother and she told me that my father was in the hospital for a heart attack, but he was now alright. She also made it known to me that they almost lost him that night. She told me that a nurse happened to be making the rounds and heard his life support red line, she ran into my father's room and jumped on his chest to revive him which she was able to do after bouncing on him repeatedly. He was now doing fine, but hearing this gave me chills. I asked my mother what time was it when he red lined and was revived, she told me that it was after 2 AM when they called her from the hospital.

Years later when my father's life finally came to an end and I had another strange occurrence. I was living very secluded, had a land line at my house but never gave the number out and it was also unlisted. So I hardly received any phone calls there, usually I would just give out my work number and take calls there. My parents had my home number but because I went to see them so often they rarely called me at home. About a week after my father's death I got a call on my home phone, which was unusual, this was as I'm leaving the house. My first thought was it's probably a wrong number, but it kept ringing. I waited to see if it would stop and it didn't which was strange. I thought maybe it's an emergency so I better pick it up. I walked through the house to get to the phone which was still ringing and finally picked it up. Someone on the other end is talking but I can't make it out because of static on the line, all I know is it sounded like a man's voice. I listen for several minutes but can't really make out anything, finally I hang up. I thought of my father and wondered if it might be him, if it was what would he want to tell me? I brushed it off as a crazy thought. Since I had never experienced static on the line before I decided to call my mother to see if my phone was working and if she was alright. She answered and the line was crystal clear, she was fine and I went over to visit her that day. From that day forward I took care of her as best as I could until her passing a year ago. If that call had been my father I'm sure his message would have been look after your mother while I'm gone, which I gladly did.

In 2010, I had a disturbing dream of an old love of mine. I hadn't seen her in almost 30 years, but I knew from infrequent e-mails we shared that she'd recently been dealing with a lingering respiratory illness that couldn't be explained. In the dream, she came to me smiling silently, and then faded away, leaving me feeling a deep loss. The vision disturbed me to the point that I woke up feeling something was wrong. The feeling stuck with me, so I followed up. I got no response from e-mails I sent, and couldn't contact her by phone, other than to leave a message. A couple of days later, I received an e-mail from a friend of hers advising me that my old flame had died. Knowing she was dying, she'd left a list of people who needed to be notified when she passed. The dream I had of her coincided with the day she died. I know in her final hours, she was reaching out to me to say goodbye and prepare me for the news of her passing.

My sister and brother-in-law lived in a home in Wapakoneta, OH, and their home had a ghost in it. They would come home and things would be moved around, phone line removed from phone jack, etc. They said it was friendly and never spooked them.

There is a City owned property that once was owned by Judge Guy B. Findley, a Common Pleas court Judge, appropriately named "Findley Estate" There is a female ghost in the home. A Park Ranger was living there for awhile and he said he saw an apparition of a woman once in a while roaming the halls. Again, she was friendly and never caused any harm.

Here is another one that blows me away. My mother had an older brother who had saved her life by rescuing her from drowning in a river when she was a little girl. My uncle was a star athlete and when he reached the right age joined the Navy. He married and had one child, they were a beautiful family. During WW2 his submarine was lost at sea, the family never really learned much because there were no survivors. As I was growing up I would admire his picture in uniform which my mother had in our living room. His death was devastating to my mother's side of the family, they had no information about how he was killed. My grandmother had a premonition of his returning home after the war; however, that never happened. The mystery always intrigued me and one day I met a naval historian who was interested in solving the mystery for me. Which he did in due time and that information was then disseminated to the rest of our family. I even was able to get the after action report from the pilot of the attacking aircraft that sent my uncle's submarine to the bottom of the ocean. Years passed and I was involved in a motorcycle accident, sent flying over the handlebars at 30-35 miles an hour. I landed on my back in the middle of the road. I was conscious but for a brief moment I was paralyzed, I thought to myself this is how I'm going to die. Then I was able to move my toes and then the rest of my body. I stood up and walked to the side of the road and sat down. I didn't have a scratch on my body, just sore as hell. I was wearing a t-shirt and light pants and nothing was torn. Someone called an ambulance and the paramedics asked me if I wanted to be taken to a hospital, fearing possible internal injuries I agreed. I had a complete examination and there was nothing wrong with me except a bit of soreness. I was a very lucky man, went home and relaxed, even took a few days off from work. Shortly afterward I was thinking about the date of my accident, I checked and it was the same date as my uncle's death. I thought what a coincidence. Than something dawned on me, so I checked that after action report again, my uncle's submarine was destroyed as best as I could tell about fifteen minutes from the estimated time of my accident 69 years later. Could he have also saved my life or was it just chance?

Too hard for my eyes to follow with all those words together so tightly.

Probably was a good post though.

I get my wife laughing her head off when I, in my best hick accent, mimic these people they interview saying:

"I was sitting in my trailer house when a ghost appeared and started throwing things around the room! I ran outside and was immediately lifted into the air and slowly transported to a huge UFO hovering above my trailer house, while in the air I got a clear view of the patch of trees over yonder and that is when I saw Bigfoot running through the trees!!"

No offense to "hicks" or people that live in "trailer houses". For the record... I am a Kansas hick and have lived in more than one "trailer house" over the years, I plan to retire to the trailer park in a few years and get a nice newer single wide for the wife me and the dogs. The news ones are pretty sweet and have real nice open floor plans!

Good luck with your retirement relocation plans. Just don't park your castle on top of an old Indain burial ground or abandoned pauper's graveyard. Your skepticism might come back to bite you on the butt

LOL thanks.... I will be careful!

Actually of the 3, ghosts, aliens and big foot... I lean to aliens being the most probable of the 3 and big foot being the least probable. Who knows... but yeah, I am a pretty big skeptic....

We had just moved in about one month before this happened : We have never been able to talk to the previous owners because the couple separated and one moved to Florida and the other to Arizona .. and we have not seen them since we closed on the house .. So we don't know if they experienced any thing unusual while living here ..

The Picture of the Grandmother in the long dress is in black and white all they had at the time .. it is tattered and pretty faded .. hard to make out the face of the woman .. on the back in a scrawl that is hard to read is written Grandma in her favorite blue dress .. That's how we know what color the dress was ..

Was a hot day .. A Saturday afternoon .. I was just finishing up mowing the front yard and it was very hot 90+ degrees, dry and dusty .. I wear glasses and had a very dark pair of flip up shades on them .. I saw what I took to be my wife standing on the glass enclosed porch on the front of the house .. the sun glaring into the windows from behind my back all I could see was a figure standing with her arms crossed in front of her through the bright glare of the sun .. I slowed down and powered down the mower and turned the mower deck off on my John Deere and yelled "Hun get me a glass of tea !!"

The figure turned and walked a few feet to the door of the house from where she had been standing .. I saw the door open and the figure walk into the house as I started the mower deck and continued to mow again .. After about 10 minutes and no glass of ice tea I stopped the mower and went into the house , walked into the kitchen where my wife was and asked where my glass of tea was .. She turned and said you never asked me for a glass .. I said yes I did you were standing on the porch when I stopped and asked you to get me a glass.. I watched you walk in the house ..

She said oh that's really strange .. I was never on the porch and never heard you say you wanted tea .. About 10 minutes ago I felt like someone was in this room with me .. it became cold and chilly for about 10 seconds .. she said, I turned around and didn't feel it after a few seconds ..

That was our first meeting or encounter with our "Lady in Blue" .. we had seen some of the things she had done and still does like turning lights on and opening or closing curtains .. but that was the first actual sighting by me .. and then the cold feeling by my wife ..

that was back in the summer of 79 .. we have had many more brief glimpse or feelings of being watched especially certain area's in the yard that is suppose to be where a large garden was years ago .. and she is active around an area in the back corner of the 2 acres that was a pet cemetery which we have continued to use the same area as pet cemetery .. also a pony is suppose to be buried in that area .. also near and around an area in the barn .. one door is opened and closed between 2 areas .. where there are 2 horse stalls .. even put a latch on the fence and a peg through the latch so it wouldn't open .. the peg was found high up on a shelf ..

When things have happened especially when I'm in the barn I do talk to her asking how she is doing and what the weather is doing .. think its more to calm me then anything .. late at night when I feel or hear something I have talked to her .. I have felt the cold spot she leaves after saying something to her .. Eko will sit by me and stare through the living room door like there is something there she is watching .. when she feels her in the living room she doesn't look at me if I talk to the Lady in Blue she seems to sense I'm not talking to her .. any other time if I say anything she is there wagging her tail looking up at me ..

The Blue Lady is friendly and we try to make her feel at home .. after all she was here first possibly a long time before us .. and for what ever reason hasn't decided to leave yet .. maybe she will in the future ..

I don't think she means any harm ..

My folks used to talk about the ghost in their house that slammed doors. I would roll my eyes, say "Yeah, sure." Then one night I went over to their place. I was checking up on it since they were out of town. Damn if I didn't hear the distinct sound of a door slamming. Couldn't explain it then, still can't.

Salty RI, I was thinking the same thing! Too bad we can't teach ghosts to reload, take out the garbage, etc. hmmmm, just thinking about some other things that I probably shouldn't mention. LOL!

I typically don't trust other people's reloads, let alone a ghost who might be looking for some "company".

Not all things happening are ghosts
When i was a kid something strange happend in our house.
At about 11.30 in the middle of the day i hear the garage door open,
(garage is in the basement) my mother hear it,
our dog walk up to the cellar door wagging here tail.
Someone stomp their feet at a "shoe scraper" in the garage ....... and nothing more.
No one came up the stairs. I walk down to see.
Garage door locked.
We all hear the sounds in the basement, even the dog does.
Told my father when he came home from work what had happend,
and he told us that he (at a lunch brake) took a nap and dreamed
about how he went home, coming through the garage stomping his feet as he always does.

We could all here his dream
