Headline - Car plows into crowd in New Orleans.
I just saw a headline on my news feed that says, "Car plows into parade crowd in New Orleans; 28 hurt". Early reports indicates the driver was DUI. The victims range in age from as young as 3 or 4-years-old to adults in their 30s and 40s.
I'm thinking if this had been a shooting instead of a drunk driver the media and east coast politicians would already be screaming to ban something, just saying.

I don't take my grand kids to the downtown parades because of stupid dangerous stuff like this. Lots of robberies and assaults. A friend of mine got robbed down there at a parade several years ago. He only had a solar left and was headed back to his car to go home when the assault took place. The robber had a knife but didn't hurt him. He told him that the next time he came down there he needed to have more money.

Frankly, I don't see why anyone would take their kids to downtown New Orleans at anytime.

I've been to New Orleans on several occasions. I just don't see the attraction . . . except maybe for the WWII museum.

According to the news, his BAC was 3x the legal limit.
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nati...icle-1.2982682
"The man suspected of plowing a truck into a New Orleans parade, injuring 28 people, was driving at nearly three times the state’s legal limit for alcohol, according to a police report.
Neilson Rizzuto, 25, blew a blood alcohol content of .232 nearly two hours after the crash, a report obtained by the Times-Picayune says. The state’s limit is .08."

I guess I might be tempted to listen to some music there if I didn't have anywhere else to go, but I wouldn't be taking minors along for that. As to the WW II museum, I guess you've got me on that one.

Exactly what I was going to say.
Give a big party based on drinking till you lose all your inhibitions, then expect that people will drive responsibly.

I wonder if he also claimed that this phantom stranger then poured alcohol down his throat until his BAC was 3x the legal limit, then put him in the driver's seat of his truck, started the engine and put the transmission in gear?

I thought the attraction to New Orleans at Mardi Gras was helping deserving young ladies to collect beads to show their friends...
A car plowed into a crowd in Germany too, but the news said that case is suspected terrorism. Not the first time that's happened there, or in France. Probably will soon happen here.
A car in the wrong hands is a terrible danger.

... or deserving old ladies.
I love New Orleans any time of year.
Too bad about that drunk driver though.

With the world situation being what it is you would think traffic would be detoured away from crowded parade routes just for public safety. You can't fix stupid is the problem.

MG was much better years ago I think .. went in 1970 when I was stationed in Alexandria, Louisiana with a couple of guys .. I knew a guys family in NO and they invited me down with a friend .. they let me park my car and put 2 of us up in sleeping bags for the week ..
Had a great time but we didn't get roaring drunk any of those days either .. lot of good eating places and other things to see if you have someone who lives there to show you around .. least back then there was !!
Since being retired my wife wants to go down there during MG .. she's never been to NO .. its on her bucket list .. maye next year ..
Can you carry while walking around down there ?? We don't drink .. any one know ??

Yep, the WWII museum is really good. And if you got kids or grand kids with you, the Aquarium of the Americas is another one to catch. And the Audubon Zoo was pretty nice the last time I went, but I think that was pre-Katrina for the zoo. As for the rest of New Orleans, not so much.

I love Dixie Land music but can listen to it at home. No need to drive 2000 miles to hear it live.
