Goodbye Youtube Gun Videos

No one has a right to ad income from You Tube any more than you have a right to sell hamburgers in a MacDonald's parking lot. YouTube is privately owned, and we should support their right to make whatever business decisions they want to, just as Hobby Lobby can.

If there is money to be made from the YouTube platform, it will be made by primarily by YouTube (Google), and not by those who upload their videos. Those who use YouTube are free to go elsewhere if they have a product that will generate income.

Exactly. YouTube is paying for the server and internet connection bandwidth for those videos to be displayed. People making ad money off of their video content aren't paying the freight for operating their "business" - Google is. Though admittedly Google is still making some ad money off the traffic that their content brings to the YouTube site.

I expect it will end up being a case where the producers of the content end up having to pay Google a "royalty" or some kinf o licensing for having YouTube host their content. IMO there is nothing wrong with that. The video maker is making money off of the use of YouTube's resources. It's only fair that they have to share some of that revenue to offset the costs.

Methinks the allegation that YouTube is trying to "shut them down" is just their way of trying to gin up support and get a bunch of people behind them to oppose the idea of them having to share their ad revenue with Google. They're trying to use the court of public opinion to persuade Google to not charge them for the services they are taking advantage of.

And it isn't just the gun sites they are doing this to. Trying to tie the issue to guns is just a way to try to rile up us pro-2A folks and get us behind them.

Precisely! There are so many "free" sites out on the internet (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and on and on and on) we often forget that we use them at the pleasure and restrictions of the provider of the site/service - including this S&W Forum. This forum has their restrictions on speech and content that is allowed and not allowed - which is their privilege to do so given it's owned by someone other than me/us. And if any of us see needs out there going unmet then we have the freedom/opportunity to create a place for those needs to be met - be it for profit or not.

This is the essence of capitalism: Businesses are free to make whatever decisions they like (which includes all of the benefits and ramifications of those decisions) and people can do their own thing if they see an unmet need.

I often wondered about Hickok45.
He basically advertises for Bud's Gunshop
and Federal ammo as they provide guns and ammo.

The other thing I recently noticed is he now shoots paper
targets that are signed and dated.
Does he sell those.?

Many here seem to think You Tube doesn't make money by showing the videos. Who do you think makes money from Google ad sense? Seems some don't understand why every web site wants to be in the top ten of search engines. If you are in the top ten you are making bigger bucks from advertisers. Not only the video producers but You Tube makes probably the most money from the advertisers.

The story seems to be a fabrication designed to get views. One comment from the article, "It appears that all gun related videos on YouTube have been flagged as restricted material", is completely false. In fact, I can't find any gun videos that are flagged as restricted material.

Not Hickok45 I love that guy!

Will that affect Hickok45, Gunblast.com & Yankee Marshall?
Hope not.
I have never seen a video of Hickok45 cussin' a firearm but I've never seen him with a Rohm or a High Point either. Heck if people were sending me FREE ammunition and guns I'd just not post the ones I didn't like. Guess I'll go check Ol' Hickok while I still can?
Semper fi and God bless America! While we still can?

You can call me a dinosaur, but if it ended up by shutting down the whole internet? I'd be fine with that.
Yes, even including this here.
It's a whole new world now and not necessarily better, just faster and more encompassing.

Agree somewhat. Facebook in particular has probably done more harm than good. On the other hand, I've saved hundreds of dollars after watching DYI videos on Youtube to fix things myself that I wouldn't have dreamed of trying on my own otherwise.

Actually, Hickok45 has videos on the Hi-Point C-9 pistol and the Hi-Point 9mm Carbine 995 TS. I don't think he's done a Rohm.

And with virtually no bookstores anymore, what exactly will literate people do without even a way to order books? Watch ESPN?

My grandmother taught me that nobody ever wanted me to be ignorant for MY benefit.

I don't do You Tube and such. I've just got a IPad and belong
to a few gun forums & fishing sites. My grandkids are always
showing me gun stuff on you tube. It's always grandpa why
don't we do this? There is more dangerous, thoughtless actions
with guns on there than you will believe. Half wits shooting odd
ball stuff out of shot guns, always triggering with string in case
it blows. I saw one " The Art of the Cut Shell" another idiot.
Then you have the people giving detailed instructions on how
to make zip guns out of common house hold junk. How to make
silencers and machine guns is another. Half the stuff they do is
illegal. They act like characters out of a Spagetti Western, a lot
of laughing and giggling.

I have saw two that the Star was severely injured. One idiot
shot a large amount of Tannerite from close range, he lost a
leg from schapnel. Another "expert" on handguns shot himself
in the leg, promoting one of his education pistol drills.

These kind of idiots make the real gun people look bad. Some kids that watch this **** are going to get hurt doing it and as
usual there will be a cry out to ban guns. You can have my share
of You Tube.
