I just finished a wonderful book by Adam Makos written in 2012, I had seen a blurb here in the forum about the story and had seen the painting by the same name. Its about a allied B17 pilot named Charlie Brown a german pilot named Franz Stieger flying ME BF109. It happened on Charlies first bomb run as pilot in command over Bremen Germany and they were hit with flack and the terrible flight back to England. The two pilots met after 40 some years and stayed friends until both passed in 2008. It took the author eight years to finish the book it shows the hardships both side faced and after reading you will come to the same conclusion I did they were truly the greatest generation, try one of the search engines and you will see the painting, the artist painted it for Charlie but left off the markings on the BF109 in case Charlie ever found the enemy pilot. The book ends well and is worth a read. Jeff
