I was pulled over the other day. Everything went well. I was very respectful of course. No problems. I was wondering what info comes up on the police car cruiser computer. When he's running your plates.

Probably more about you.....

......than you want anybody else to know. I'm sure that while they are running the car, they are also running you for outstanding warrants, etc. The last time I got pulled over the policeman handed me a ticket and said, "Oh, you may want to visit your dentist more regularly."

Once the tag is put in... dmv info, ccw come back right away followed up by state and ncic returns. Followed up by any info such as watch list or similar name/dob/ssn hits and finally local contacts (the last is a specific jurisdiction thing). Now if a vehicle is registered to more than one person the returns are double. A ton of info in seconds. Several Seconds longer if from another state...very helpful, but can be distracting as you are readingscreens instead of watching the car awaiting a radio reply. Now if a watch list hit comes up, the cellphone calls will follow.

Maybe you shouldn't have given him such a big smile.:D

They will show the same information in the state/federal database as the main computers. Things such tickets, convictions, warrants, and some states CC status.

All those crazy "Hey, watch this!" videos you've uploaded to YouTube.

Maybe it was a nice way of telling you about your bad breath:D

I was headed to a church related meeting in a small city about an hour and a half away the other day. After turning off the 75 mph highway, I entered a reduced speed area and just thumbed off the cruise control.

I see the city police cruiser about the same time his lights came on and he eased in behind me.

When he gets to the window, which I have rolled down after turning off the engine and sitting with both hands on the wheel, I inform him I am a licensed handgun carrier and am armed. That is no longer a requirement in Texas, but I rather over-inform. His exact quote is, "Oh, hell, it's Texas, everyone has a gun." He then says, "If you don't have any warrants, I'll have out of here in a minute."

At this point I don't know if that means with, or without, a citation. When he comes back to the window, he says, "Your driving record is better than mine, have a nice day." At this point, he turns on his heels and returns to the cruiser after handing my license back to me. No citation or even a "be more careful" or anything. I thank him as he's walking away and can't help but laugh. He was a young man, so I wondered about his driving record!

Yup

It does however vary a little bit by state. Some states provide more or less info than the above.

When I was a young trooper in 1969, if you pulled someone over & they couldn't produce a driver's license (I left it at home), you had a choice of taking them at their word, or both of you sitting on the shoulder of the road for about an hour while your dispatcher attempted to get verification from Springfield (IL)...everything happens in seconds nowadays...

Happened to me in 1998 (lots of serious upgrades in info now available.)

I ordered a 98 Corvette and special plates for it from DMV at the same time (plate was 98VETTE) Both normally take about 2-3 months to get processed back then. The plates came in a couple weeks before the Vette and I had to put them on the car I was trading in for the Vette in order to be legal to drive. Car was a special order 97 SS Camaro.

I was out driving about 50 miles from the house and I noticed a state police car turn around behind me and started following me (I was not speeding) Car stayed behind me for about 10 minuets and then another SP car fell in behind the first one. I'm now thinking this is not good.

Sure enough I got lit, up pulled over and 3 troopers got out of their cars and yelled to me put your hands up (I was driving a convertible, top down) They approached me very carefully and the one in charge asked me why a plate that said 98Vette on it was on a 97 Camaro.

Showed registration and explained and all was well. Asked why the sort of felony stop and he told me that the state DMV computer was down and the dispatchers at the station could not run Reg and they thought they might have had a stolen car or stolen plates. The one trooper was a gear head and after the official part of the stop was over we had a nice car guy type talk!:D

Just another interesting day on the road!
