How many still have their toys from childhood?
Tonka trucks, Hot Wheels, electric trains, GI Joe.....etc, etc.
I so badly wish I'd have saved them all. Not so much to pass them on (I never had a son).....but just because.
Also, some of the above toys from the 60's & 70's have attained valuable collector status.
I must of had a dozen or so Tonka trucks.....probably a hundred or so Hot wheel cars. I even had some of the Hot Wheel "Sizzlers".
Anyone remember "Johnny Express"? The battery powered semi truck?
How about "Mighty Matilda".....the giant size (giant if you are 8 years old!)...aircraft carrier set?
Just sitting here reminiscing my child hood. Comments welcome!

I still have my GI Joe footlocker. I got it when I was six years old, 1966, with tons of other stuff. I keep the postcards I got from my grandmother in it. When I was in high school, it was where Mr. Zig Zag lived, if you catch my drift!
And I have my mom's Red Ryder BB gun, which she got when she was 10.
A while back, I saw a deep-sea diver suit for GI Joe on ebay, and they wanted $375! But it was NIB, and mine was well used.

I don't. My Mom gave them to the Church nursery years ago. But my 91 year old father still has a bunch of his stuff from the late '20s and '30s. We were looking at some of the values the other day online. Holy smokes!

Mom saved me a couple of items: my big kid milk mug, and my Lionel train set. I also have a wooden train locomotive my dad built when he was a kid.

My Mom sold my Lionel train set from the 1940s and my two much younger brothers totally destroyed everything else I left at the house. I don't even remember what the stuff was except for the Lionel set.

I still have a bunch of my GI Joes and Legos. My kids have the GI Joes right now and I'm waiting till they're big enough to stop leaving toys all over the floor before they get the Legos.

I have some dolls saved from my childhood, and board games.
And.......
Cork guns!! My mother was my Girl Scout leader and we used them for shooting gallery games at carnivals.
My son has all of his Tonka toys from the 70's and Matchbox & Hot Wheels cars. He still picks up some when he sees them at flea markets.

Not a thing. As posted earlier my folks threw away all our money on groceries and the power bill and such foolishness. Maybe that's why I have so much "stuff" today. Trying to make up?

I have a big box of Lionel trains and accessories. The toy guns are long gone, who knows when. Who remembers sticking the muzzle of their Daisy air gun in the dirt and shooting the clods at their friends. I was not allowed a bb gun. I do have my model 67A Winchester that I got from the S&H Green stamp store in 58 or 59. It was six and one quarter books.

I have just a few things, but only because I didn't have much to start with. Lincoln logs, a couple of steel trucks, mainly matchbox cars. Books were hand-me-down from my Dad & cousins.
There wasn't much extra money in our family.

I'd love to see what my Matchbox collection would be worth?

I don't have a thing, because I busted most of it. I had lots of baseball trading cards in the early 60s, some of which might have some value today.

I had a pedal tractor when I was a youngster.
One day my wife and I stopped at an antique store in a converted barn.
There was a pedal tractor there that was just like I had way back when.
I was kinda taken aback at the $4500 price tag.
If only I knew it'd be worth some much way back then.

I still have my first .22. It is a single shot rifle, short stock and barrel, designed for kid use. Most inaccurate gun I own though.

50's Hubley 45
Lionel set from 1959 with boxes.
Amazed myself that they are still in my possession.

You guys that still have your GI Joe's ..... they're the REAL GI Joe, right? Not the later 4-inch small toys?
I have my GI Joe in footlocker with a few clothes and other accessories. Also a Tonka Jeep with the box, a Structo (??) semi-truck that hauls 4 horses, a few 1/16th scale tractors, etc. Wish I had kept more!

From very early on, books were my "toys".
I still have many of them, from the Edgar Rice Burroughs "Mars" books, to "World at War" books (especially the ones by Hogg and Bachelor), to "Small Arms of the World", my first copy of which was purchased between 7th and 8th grades.
Many of these, like the Doubleday WWI and WWII aircraft books have no equal currently in publication.

I still have my original set of Lionel Trains my Dad bought right after I was born ('54). They still look great, run great and they are still in the original boxes! To this day I still collect them. I've even got original bottles of smoke pellets that go in the steam engine stack. The original Lionel Transformer works like it did when new and I am still using some of the original tracks, switches and accessories.
My original Schwinn from the late 50's is still at my Brother's house although it has some rust and the tires and wheels are shot.
I would not really call it a toy, but I've got my original Camilus pocket knife my Dad gave me when I was about 6. It was his Navy knife during WWll and now I am giving it to my son.
I wish I still had the Fanner 50!

I still have my Hopalong Cassidy watch from when I was probably about 6. I wish I still had my Schwinn Stingray 5 speed (gear shift) with the banana seat!
yep, there is a lot of stuff I wish I would have hung on to.

I blew most of my stuff up with firecrackers. The rest was lost in a house fire, most notably a large cache of Matchbox cars and a pretty good set of 1/32 scale slot cars and our home- built track.
The toys I have stashed away were mostly accumulated in the '80s when my family was in the toy business.

I gotta jump on this one. Many years ago, after we kids had gotten older, dad decided to dig up the back yard for a garden. He unearthed hundreds of mangled little green army men.
My younger brother, Dave, told dad that when they "died" in battle, he cut them up and buried them.

When I was a kid my absolute favorite TV show was Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea . I had a model of the Flying Sub , A VTTBOTS Lunch Box , and my crowned jewel was a yellow toy Seaview Submarine that shot little yellow torpedoes . The Seaview accompanied me on many search and destroy sea monsters in the bath tub , lol. I still have that toy Seaview in my curio cabinet . My wife bought me the complete DVD set of VTTBOTS when it came out , and I still watch them from time to time and think of the fun I had going on missions with Admiral Nelson and Captain Crane and my little yellow Seaview . I sure do miss those simpler times (for me at least} !

Mostly all donated years ago. Earliest "toy" I have is my original Crossman "M1 Carbine" bb gun that I got for my 9th birthday .
(Yea, it was the 60's then. Parents didn't go to jail for such things.)

Thanks everyone for the replies. You all are reminding me of toys I had forgotten about, a lot of which I wanted but never owned.
Remember those bags packed with plastic green army men? I think every kid had those at some point or another.
I now remember that my Lionel trains were given to another family member when I became a teen and lost interest in them.
Some of you mention BB guns. Inside the house.....with NO BB's loaded..... I used to dump baby powder into the muzzle so the gun would shoot out a puff of "smoke"! My dad caught me doing that and took the gun away.

Mine dated from the end of the '30's to about 1948. I thought they were all long since thrown away by my mother. But when she and Dad decided to go into a retirement home and were disposing of things, I saw her going through a trunk. She pulled out an impossibly ragged, decrepit stuffed bear that had been mine from age two (1939) to about five.
I didn't ask for it, and I believe she threw it away. That day was too emotional for all of us to worry about it.

Still have an old metal Tonka Ford pick-up truck from the 50's. The thing is indestructible. My early 50's Lionel train set, N gauge (I think), with some of the boxes is packed away in the attic. Probably should do something with it. hardcase60

Kept most of them until I got married. Gave all of them to a young cousin when I moved out of my daddy's house. He makes it a point to say thanks every time I see him. Glad he lives in Georgia.

All the actual toys I owned are long gone. I was a rabid collector of Army Dinkys (small British die cast vehicles) for several years (late 1950's and early 1960's). When eBay came on the scene I rebuilt that collection plus some. I've since reduced to just a handful but they are still on small shelves in my office.
Also did the green plastic/rubber soldiers, as well as military plastic models, Revelle, Monogram, etc. I collected military surplus items, they are also long gone but have been replaced, as anyone who has seen some of my posts with pictures, can attest to.

I still have most of my toys in boxes in the attic. At some point I'll probably have a friend sell a lot of them off for me, I just have to get motivated to crawl around in the attic.
One toy I am not letting go of is my first set of toy guns, a pair of SAA style cap guns with holsters. I can still remember my grandfather taking me to the Kiddie City in Northeast Philly and buying them for me in the early summer of '77. You've never seen a happier kid.

Marbles, pocket knifes and my son and now grandson use my Stevens M94 410 single shot. I have my Dad's cap gun from the 1920's.

That's cool, even comes with a surf-board. Speaking of hot wheels ive owned--I had the Munster mobile-the Red Baron? large German spiked helmet as a top for the car, and the Batmobile-and a few others. All now long since gone. I THINK I even had the Scooby Doo van?

My Lionel electric trains, 027 gauge, are in a box in the attric. They date from 1939, and the boxes are in pretty bad shape for an excited 6 year old tearing them open on Chrhstmas morning. Most of it works, including the switches, but one of the transformers is burned out. My kids can sell them.

I still have most of my toys (mom and dad never turned my room into something else lol) but it's all used and abused. I do have a Hot Wheels that would be worth 4 figures if it was still new in the blister pack, but well used missing all the paint and 3 of the 4 wheels brings it down to the high single digit, low double digit range

Most were lost in the great storage space disaster in the 80's.
I still have my Matchbox cars, one friction powered Tonka dragster that still hauls butt, one of my toy soldiers (a Browning M2 gunner), some scale models (bikes, cars, military aircraft), a few pellet guns, my last lego creation was Kragled together (a single person space pod), an old slot car, and a miniature single shot luger cap gun.
I had He-Man guys...the bad ones of course. They were always more interesting. I sold the whole set for seven or eight dollars on Ebay. They were all badly worn.
