Grandpa's old guns

Took my 21 year old grandson to the range yesterday. I had let him pick out what he wanted to shoot. As it turned out, all but one of the guns were older than grandpa, and the exception may have been. We took a Swedish Mauser, a Winchester 69, and a Winchester 94. For handguns, he selected an M&P Target, a .22 Outdoorsman, a .32 WCF, and the one that may be younger than I am, an Argentine Sistema Colt.

We had a great time shooting together, and the hour each way to the range was good too.

So which one was his favorite? I'd be hard for me to choose, fo sure. Maybe I need to give them all a go and see which one stands out! LOL!

Great of you to spread the love of firearm ownership to the younger generation, especially teaching them that the "old stuff" is just as much fun, if not more, than the newest "plastic poly whizbanger". You've got some neat toys!

I love these old "Grandpas guns"! Here's my grandpa's S&W Top break .38. Made Circa 1883-1885. I wouldn't want to fire it though. With 1/2" play in the cylinder it'd be a good way to lose a few fingers.

On Christmas Eve when I was a kid in the 40s and 50s us boys would go out with him to burn all the Christmas wrappings after opening the gifts and he'd let each of us shoot one blank cartridge in the air. Also when I spent weekends over at his house he'd let me play with it.

He left it to my dad and my dad left it to me.

I grew up in the '30's & 40's. Old guns were plentiful. I traded for a .38 S&W top break, don't remember but it was less than 5 bucks. We took it down to a slough & shot up a box of shells [$1.49]. Can't remember what ever became of it, guess I traded it off.

Really good thing to do. He will remember that trip for the rest of his life.
