It looks to be aimed directly at the Subaru WRX market. Sounds like fun!

Interesting looking little Honda. Dealers will probably sell any they can get their hands on. I imagine it'll be like the Civic Si...made in limited quantities.
I had a 2008 Honda Civic Si Coupe (see attached photo). Honda had made only 1500 of them that year, if I remember correctly. Mine came with the 6-speed and the 2.0 V-Tec motor putting out roughly 190 horsepower.
That little car was dangerously fast. Almost impossible to keep my foot out of the gas. I'd take off from a stoplight, glance in the rearview mirror, and wonder why all those other cars were still sitting there. Seriously, it was quick, but you weren't conscious of it. This was a non-turbo car. It's a wonder I didn't kill myself in the thing, or lose my insurance. 65-70 mph in second gear was not unusual, but then the rev limiter would kick in. Fastest I ever had it was 115 on I-26 up in the mountains, but I've no doubt it would have done more.
So it's hard to think of a car the size of the Type R cranking out 305 HP. And like all Hondas, it'll be front wheel drive, which isn't all it's cracked up to be. It made for some strange (to me) steering qualities until I got used to it.
Well to do dads will buy the Type R for their kid's graduation present, then be overwhelmed with remorse when Junior slices it in half on a phone pole.
That doesn't mean I wouldn't have a lot of fun driving one, though.

While I can appreciate the tuner cars when done well (our daughter has a blown RSX for a summer toy and our son-in-law had a 500hp s2000) and they can definitely be fun to drive; I'd prefer to put that much power to the ground either via rwd or perhaps like the Subies via awd.
Just not a fan of torque steer, maybe that's the old muscle car guy in me. Though watching vids of their friend's civic that runs 9.6 at 156 in the 1/4; guess power can be ran thru front wheels lol
Is kinda cool to see even the econo cars playing in the muscle car wars going on.....

Oh no. Please keep up with the trend in vehicles.
The Merc GM and Ford Crown Vics are no longer cool. It is White Mini Vans now.
Hold the whole gang and their golf clubs. Don't forget the colorful scrunchy on the antennae so one can find their vehicle in the Wal Mart shopping lot.

I'm with ya. When you start talking about real power, I'm a firm believer in RWD or a rear biased AWD system (like the WRX, the new Ford Focus RS, and Audi R series cars). I get that FWD can get the job done (ever watch some British Touring Car racing?) and "hot hatches" aren't new, but it ain't for me.

IMO, the Honda is probably a fine little car, but before you buy one, drive a WRX. I used to be a FWD believer/driver until I started driving AWD turbo Subies back in '07. I grin from ear to ear when driving my 17 WRX base, mid $20K, in the mountains of SW VA.
Before buying the WRX, I drove a RWD GT Mustang, a Subaru BRZ and considered a Civic. The Mustang was clunky/heavy feeling, not curve friendly. The BRZ was lacking in horsepower. The Civic just didn't appeal to me like the WRX did.
Maybe someday soon, 🙏🏼, Subaru will bring back the WRX hatch, anxiously waiting!
BTW, age should not be a factor when buying a "smiles by the miles" vehicle....says a 50+ female who refuses to buy a boring CVT! 😎

Cool looking car.
I wonder how the upholstery would hold up to all the Crisco it would take to squeeze me into that thing.

So the Civic....
....is now a sports car. 305 Hp? That ought to get you onto the crowded freeway.

My last car was a 2009 Civic Si...I would have it to this day, except that on Black Friday in 2012, I "test-drove" a 2013 VW Golf R...and then bought it on the spot.
My Golf R is the best car I've ever owned: AWD, 6-speed, 256 horsepower, 243 foot-pounds of torque. It runs like a scalded cat. The parts guy at my dealer, as well as my 2 sons, keep telling me how much I could "improve" it if I chipped it. My response is that I've never gotten in this thing, punched the throttle, and thought "Gee, this needs more power."
I'm sure the new Civic is a fine car, but that styling is too far "out there" for my 64 year old eyes. However, I'm sure Transformers generation will love it...

I owned a couple of Golf GTIs and a Jetta GLI in the early 90s that I considered more than enough power and conveniences.
So why the R over the GTI?

I actually drove a GTI about a year before I bought my Golf R, and concluded at that time that there wasn't enough there to make me trade in my Civic Si. But the Golf R is a whole different animal. The extra power and torque make a huge difference, and the AWD drivetrain feels different.
Brakes, suspension, styling, standard features...all are different on the R. It really is very distinctive from the GTI, sort of like a step up on the evolutionary scale. It's a niche car, not for everyone to be sure, but I love mine...

That reminds me of when I got my '06 Mustang GT. I was gonna buy a bunch of parts and really get it running good. After driving it a bit, I decided it was great as it was and left it alone. I wound up putting 107K miles on it in 6 years and never did spend a penny on any modifications.

When I was young, I played around with modifications on the British sports cars I owned then, but as I've gotten older, I've concluded that the engineers who design these things really do know what they're doing.
I have almost 95,000 miles on my Golf R, and I'm still pleased with the stock drivetrain. The only change I made is to wheels and tires.
The stock 18" wheels and all-season tires rode very hard, and about three months after I bought the car, I bulged a sidewall when I hit a pothole in Long Island. I bought two sets of 17" VW wheels, and I use Michelin Pilot Super Sports for the summer, and Dunlop D3 Winter Radials for winter. I saved the stock wheels, which will go with the car at whatever point I get rid of it.
I figure that by leaving my R stock, I've also enhanced its resale value...which might help offset the hit I'll take from the high mileage. I've maintained the car by the book, and the only unexpected repair I've had is the right window motor.
