Ship My Gun
Anybody have any experience with this? Getting tired of having to pay UPS prices to ship guns. If I understand it correctly, I download a shipping label (for a fee) slap it on a box and then drop it off to the UPS depot and that's it. Am I missing anything???

That is also my understanding. I haven't used this service but it is an offshoot of Bud's and is a repudible outfit.

That's basically it. You can even have UPS pick it up. The best part is no dealing with UPS counter people who may or may not know their own policies or make up policies as they go along!

The last time I shipped a gun was to Ruger. They use Fedex. I had to go to the main store, find out the cost for next day delivery, call Ruger they sent me a shipping label at a discounted price by email. Boxed it up according to their directions and shipped it.
My first attempt, I simply took it boxed to a nearby Fedex store and when I told the clerk what it was, she went nuts as if it were a bomb.

And, Fedex has a sign on the gate that says "no firearms are allowed on the premises"!
Best,

Maybe getting too technical here, but this is from the BATFE website. How does this meet your federal requirement to notify the common carrier (in this case UPS) that the shipment contains a firearm?
“A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.
[18 U.S.C. 922(a)(2)(A), 922(a) (3), 922(a)(5) and 922(e), 27 CFR 478.31 and 478.30]”
People probably do this all the time, but you have to hope you don’t lose a gun in transit.

Having a good relationship with your LGS is as good as gold in this regard.
For handguns I do an online USPS shipping label (usually Priority Mail Flat Rate Box)
Then I bring the opened box (with packing material) and gun to them and they mail it out on their FFL. No extra cost for me.
I do favors for them and it's repaid in kind.

Yes, you still pay SMG $39 plus the cost of the shipping (whatever that is)
I just did a test from Florida to Wisconsin and it was over $70 for a large 10 lb box.
I use USPS Flat rate box, print the label with my FFL address, bring it and open box to my FFL and pay them $25, they log it I tape up the box and away it goes.

On the "contents of the package" section, list "firearm". It's on them if they read it or not. I've not had any problems.

If it's a handgun, ship in a box that's too big to slip under a
UPS uniform shirt.

I remember the first time I returned a S&W Model 60 to the factory for a problem, I watched the clerk write on the outside of the package in red marker, "FIREARM" in letters 3" high. It never arrived at the S&W. I filed a stolen gun report and guess what? About a year later I got a call from the sheriff's office from several counties away. They had recovered by Model 60. I went and picked it up. A little worse for wear but I did have it back. I consider myself extremely lucky in getting it back.

We all like to save a few bucks, whenever we can. But, is saving $35.00 - $40.00 worth the potential loss of of a nice handgun?

I bought a gun off the Forum , and the guy used that Bud's service . He would not accept it , as he does not accept transfers from individuals , which that's what it is . I found an FFL that accepts from individuals , and is $10 cheaper . I've shipped UPS before , but they make you send guns over night which is not cheap . Like someone said , find a local FFL and use them . After my 5th transfer , they are taking another $5 off , but then I do a lot of transfers . I should just get my own FFL . Any of you have one ? Was it hard ?
