Default When will we see the eclipse?

Would some of you who know when the eclipse will appear in your area please post that?

I specifically want to know about the Dallas-Ft . Worth zone, but am sure others will be curious, too.

I found one Online site but it didn't mention my area. Extrapolating from what they had,I'm guessing about 1:00 PM to maybe 1:30. I guess if it gets dark, we'll know, but want to be watching.

I presume that YouTube and the evening news will have good images tonight.

A strictly local internet news outlet is reporting that it will occur here at 2:28pm EDT. Just happened to catch that while looking for other news this morning.

Maximum eclipse in the DFW area will be around 1:10 and about 80%. If you didn't know it was happening you wouldn't notice anything out of the ordinary. The sky will not get dark and if you have solar glasses or a pinhole viewer of some kind, you will just see a crescent sun.

If you are not in the path of totality it is only mildly interesting. Totality is a completely different experience.

Watching it on TV versus being there, is like watching sex on TV versus doing it.

If the Sun is 80% eclipsed here and there's no darkness, that's powerful testimony to just how potent the Sun is... Wow!

If you are in the path of totality then you will not see it, it will be dark. So in Dallas you only get partial as will those in Florida, maybe it will cool off for 2 minutes??

Won't be seeing anything here, it has been dark and raining for almost an hour. If I remember this would be about a 90% area but it won't matter now.

Well, sorta .....

Here is a photo I took less than an hour ago during the moment of totality. It looked WAY cooler than this, but there was still so much radiation escaping around the edges that a regular highly light-sensitive cell phone lens can't differentiate and still produces a blob that looks like, well, the sun.

The 'maximum' only lasted for just a bit. The retired neighbors were out so we had something to talk about. Street had these moving/cascading evenly spaced shadow lines kinda weird. The katydids started chirping big time... fooled em!

Here was only about 92%

The maximum eclipse was at 2:21. It was cloudy and rainy for about 30 minutes before. The sun peeked out a little after 2:21, then clouded over again. About 10 minutes later it started clearing off for good.

I made one of those pinhole things out of a cereal box so I could see the crescent. Overall, it was rather underwhelming. Even with 92% coverage it just got a little dimmer than normal. Not really worth the bother unless you are in the 100% totality area.

Pin hole effect works thru leaves of trees, too.

We marveled at the crescents in the street.

During the partial phase, the crescent shadows were pretty cool wherever there was the right pattern of leafy tree cover.

Noticeably dimmer, sky straight over head turned a deeper shade of blue.
Enough clouds moving where multiple nice views were possible looking right at the sun.
Posted a pic of the dappled sunlight on another thread.
All in all not a bad experience.

I live in central Arizona so we only at best had a partial eclipse. It was partially overcast here and for a brief period it go noticeably darker but that was it. I'm sure those in the direct path had a much better show!

Default Big bust here....

Total cloud cover with heavy rain and lighting. But boy did it get dark. And my power went out about an hour before the event. Thought the eclipse was coming early.

The sunlight was reduced noticeably in the Phoenix area at the time of maximum partial coverage - around 10:33 AM local time. Usually we rely on daylight to illuminate the interior of our home, but it got dark enough inside that we turned on a few lights for the short duration.

T-S:

We achieved 87% coverage at 2:35 PM, EST.

GF talked me into taking her up to the college where I teach, everything was supplied for us, and they had some big telescopes set up with filters we could look at it with. Interesting. (Hey, free is always good!!).

Best Regards, Les

Nice and sunny here in central SC. Took the pontoon boat and some neighbors out on the lake and watched it. Just incredible.

On a side note, anyone want to buy some eclipse glasses? Low mileage-one owner.

Someone was saying that the total eclipse totally discombobublates nocturnal animals. My response was "how do they even know as they are asleep?" Got a dirty look for that one.....
