The shadow factories were a must as the Luftwaffe had most of the UK photomapped prior to the outbreak of WWII. Enfield No.1 production was farmed out all over the Midlands of England and with the rifles piece parts being made in small workshops and final assembly at the BSA factory. Rifles produced that way were called Dispersal rifles and sometimes have 4-groove barrels instead of the normal five. Seems reasonable as the BSA factory was the only one to produce 4-groove No.4 rifles..

My mom was married to a career Air Force man. She was never really subjected to aircraft as we never lived on base and is somewhat unenthused towards them.
However, mention Spitfire or Hurricane and her ears prick up. As a young girl she endured the Blitz and the Battle of Britain. She and her family, even though their home was burned down, took great pride in the daily talk on the street that brave men and their fighters planes were gaining the upper hand against the Germans.
My generation of Brits view the Spitfire the way older Yanks (including me) view the Mustang.
I guarantee mum will be watching it.
Appreciate the heads up.

Funny. The P51 only attained it's full potencial when the same engine that was used by the Spitfire was installed.
