Dick's Sporting goods to destroy rifles

Dick's won't take much of a financial hit.

Given their high prices and their poor reputation among gun owners, Dick's low rate of gun sales was probably just a tiny contributor to their bottom line. As a consequence, they probably had only a few ARs in their inventory, so "destroying" them won't be much of a loss. Even then, they might still make some money from the "destruction". In the news article I read, a company representative said that weapon parts would be sent to a salvage company to be recycled. Hmmm. Recycled weapon parts? As we all know, ARs can be broken down into individual components and sold piecemeal. My guess is that the salvage company is a reseller of AR parts. So if Brownells announces that they've just received a one-time-only special shipment of factory AR parts, you can guess where they came from. Does that mean I'm cynical? You bet!

Can you say "Hollow Gesture", boys and girls?

Since when is being both ignorant and stupid good business practices. I once bought a gym bag from them, on something like a 75% off closeout. Other than that, nada. I haven't even been in one of those places in years.

They have decided on who they want as customers, and I won't be one of them. They'll soon have bathrooms that are no different than Target's.

They open one here, and there prices was little higher then BassPro Shop I buy my items my equipment in, don't need them, even there ammo is higher.

To paraphase Abraham Lincoln:

We cannot make a joke of this firm, for this firm has done far more than is in our poor power to add or distract from. It is they, who through thier actions have made themselves a joke that the world should long remember.

Still a shame that new rifles have to be destroyed for pure political reasons. Ignorance knows no bounds.

I kinda don't think so. In this context, I believe what they mean by "recycled" is that the parts will be melted down and repurposed into other aluminum, steel, and polymer products sold by other companies. Who knows, your next Shield could be made from a recycled AR destroyed by Dick's Sporting Goods.

Yep, a totally hollow gesture, except for public relations purposes that will make the anti-gun folks hyper-salivate and give each other gratuitous pats on the back.

Let's face it, Dick's wasn't/isn't a major player in the guns and ammo market. Never was, never would've been. At least not around here. I'm confident in saying local gun shops around here sold more rifles, shotguns, and ammo that Dick's ever did.

Good news for the manufacturers. Those weapons were bought and paid for and Dicks can do with them what they wish. Those of us that want an AR-15 can still buy a new AR, preferably from a deserving LGS that supports our second amendment rights.

Happened across a bit of their statement regarding Parkland, "We are deeply disturbed...".
'Bout sums up their thinking.
Bought a bag of practice balls for my son and the best vented canvas hat for $20 anywhere, a Dorfman Pacific.
That was many many moons ago, surprised there are still quite a few stores in the area.
Would not consider darkening their doorway.

Most everything that Dick's carries can probably be bought cheaper at some other source on the internet. And maybe without any sales tax to boot.

I am wondering how many Dick's employees will take home the appropriate bits and pieces of 'destroyed' weapons to reassemble a personal unregistered weapon.
