Clarkson Covered Bridge
Neighboring Blount County has preserved several of their old covered bridges.

Where there is a creek.... the squirrel dog will swim!

I wasn't aware that there were many covered bridges down south. There are quite a few existing in the Midwestern states, mainly as historical relics. When I was a kid living in Ohio there were many covered bridges still in use in rural areas. The main idea there was to keep ice and snow off the bridge floor. That wouldn't be so much of a problem in the southern states. I have four excellent limited edition prints on my dining room wall done by a Kentucky artist which I bought back in the early 1970s showing different construction styles of actual Ohio covered bridges. They are nearly photographic in their realistic quality.

...the only time we were briefly in New Hampshire was when we crossed this bridge from Vermont...

Google Blount County Alabama covered bridges...

There was a small covered bridge on Halawakee creek just a few miles from my home until some idiot set fire to it.

Nice photos. Love the shot of your dog in the water!

Rooster/Rufus the squirrel dog swims year round. He travels with me 24/7 and can't stand to pass by a swimming hole. (See his grin in the water)
He caused a wedding crew work stoppage at the bridge. Shoulda got a pic of their faces looking out of the bridge to watch him swim.

The vet wanted to keep him a couple hours to let the anesthesia wear off. I waited 30 minutes, went back and he had every dog there barking and howling. We were both diagnosed by the vet as having 'separation anxiety'

There were lots more covered bridges when I was a kid in Dixie, until the local drunks and thugs burned them down.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

There are 3 covered bridges in Pittsburg NH, you can no longer drive over them.
