Was down Hank Williams old gravel driveway today when I noticed his old security gate from the late 70's is still there. Yes he discreetly lived in our small community in the 70's and 80's.
One of the few stories I recall is George Jones(?) coming to visit his buddy Hank and crashing his car at the caution light. Word spread quickly, no one was injured and ol' George was drunk. The powers that be got him to Hanks house and the lady in the crash got an autograph and was well compensated.

When hearing his song "I Got Rights"; lyrics in the first line of the
song says he went down to Mary Carter Paint Store and said gimme one the Smith & Wesson Magnum 44's. I thought to myself nobody that hears that song that isn't from our little town will have a clue about the Mary Carter Paint Store. It's like the old time hardware store with any and everything thing you could need. Yes they sell firearms too, probably the oldest gun selling store in town... I'll guarantee you Hank Jr. bought a few there.
If you like Hank music give that song a listen.... it's well done with a subtle mention of our hometown gun store.

Both hank and Jr. are on my list of the greatest C&W singers of all time . Sounds like you have a lot of history in that town, great history . Check out my string on " What's your favorite C&W song? ". You will see them on it , that's for sure .

Charlie Sherrill and I were sitting at my NGD table 3 or 4 shows ago just shooting the breeze and neither one of us noticed Hank Jr walking the aisles. One of his long time pals has the end cap across from me. Another show, several years ago, Blake (rburg's mentor) sold Hank Jr a rough 44 special. At a gunshow Bocephus is just another bearded guy in a flannel shirt and I imagine that's the way he likes it.

I've been wondering for years just what 'The Mary Carter Paint Store' line was all about. Thank you! I love that song (along with MANY others of Bocephus' songs).

Been some time but Hank Jr. was at the big Tulsa show. Same with David Alan Coe. I can't recall all the C&W singers and other celebs (ie; Tom Selleck, etc) I've seen there over the years.
Interesting story about the MC store.

Great story. I knew he had/has a ranch in the Big Hole and had a place outside Darby, MT or spent a lot of time in town.
Friend was working at a dealership when he traded trucks. Apparently some lady walked in as he drove out and bought his old truck with the instructions "I want it as is, don't clean it or wash it". IIRC it was a Chevy S-10 wit a guitar and Hank painted on the door. This would have been late 80's or early 90's.

His home wasn't extravagant by any means. It has a lot of windows in the southern facing great room overlooking a modest non-fenced pool. I can only imagine he and his friends lounging in the house watching the ladies frolicking in the pool.

Just back from National Gun Day and Hank Jr spent the whole day there working the tables like a regular aisle shark. Just as common and friendly as any other gun guy. Show closes at 3. I left at 2:30 and he was still there. He needed a bore light so I loaned him mine to look at an old Winchester 45-60 on the table behind me. Guy told him price was $8500 and Hank asked him if he could pay him in t-shirts and concert tickets. :D

They didn't make a deal but Hank did buy several long guns and said he bought them all to shoot.

Wasn't very well liked when he lived in the Bitterroot. Never had much use for drunks who damn near kill themselves and then continue to drink and put others in danger. He can sell his records to someone else and should he want a gun I where ever to sell he'll have to look elsewhere.

Some friends back when we were teens happened to spot Hank Jr while riding around on a Saturday night. They foolishly decided to follow and made contact with him at an apartment complex. As Hank was walking across the parking lot they rolled up in their four wheeled drive and shouted "Hey Hank!" They cranked up a Hank tune and held up a half bottle of Jim Beam expecting his approval when in that deep voice he growled: "Get outta here you little Son's of B's!" It traumatized my friend Nicky so bad he destroyed all of his Hank cassettes and said he'd never listen to his music again.
I've heard Nicky tell that story many times while I howl at his seriousness about boycotting Hank Jr. music. LOL!!!

Oh, where's the love, the compassion. the forgiveness. LOVE HANK, both of them

I ran into Hank Williams Jr. at a gunshow in Nashville Tn at the Opryland Hotel.
We talked about an hour or so, mostly about elk hunting in Montana.

Once upon a time, I shot a LE pistol match with Jett Williams when
NCTC was sponsoring the 'Shop with a Cop' fund raising thing in Macon County.
I think it was back when Jerry Dallas was Chief of Police.

I believe celebrities put their britches on just like the rest of us do.
