Tile Guys
I have to replace a couple of 12x12's in my kitchen floor that have been down for 6 years or so. Any tips on getting new grout to match old? Thanks

Tell your wife that if she had done a better job keeping the kitchen floor clean there would not be issues with matching the grout.

Wow! I'm kind of amazed that you are still breathing. Unless you don't follow your own advices. And instead just say "Yes Dear".

Paint stores sell universal colorants that will blend in grout. Look for one of their old timers and see what they say will be needed to match and then play around with your grout. Start on the conservative side with what you think you need to put in it and then cut that in half.

Look here. I'm a lawyer. I GIVE advice. Whether or not I actually follow it is none of your bid'ness. Maybe I sometimes give advice just to see what would happen. The world is my petri dish

Get ready to have to rip it all up and redo the kitchen if you are serious about getting a match! Don’t ask me how I learned this lesson.

There is different colors of grout. Take a sample with you to the store and try to match what you have. I've replaced tile with new grout with good success. Sometimes you have to look at several different manufacture's products to get it right.
I have also cut larger tiles to fit in with smaller sized tiles. The store will usually do this without a charge.

Lowes and Home Depot sell grout stain-paint colors that comes in a tube so if you can't buy the grout to match perfectly you can stain-paint the new grout to match the old. If you can't get a good match then stain-paint the grout on the whole floor, its a whole lot easier than scraping out the grout and then re-grouting.

My experience from 40+ years of apartment maintenance say put it down with the closest grout possible (It will not be perfect!) It will/should be bright and slightly lighter colored, but in 6 months to a year you won't be able to tell the difference. Possibly sooner, if you have pets and small children!!!
