Luxury Watches

People think owning guns is like an addiction. Holey smokes, guns don't even compare to what people pay for watches and also need has nothing to do with why people have so many of them either.
People think I am nuts for what I paid for a couple of guns but heck that isn't but a coin in a park fountain compared to what people pay for one watch.
Since I retired I seldom wear a wrist watch. I wear a gun most all the time though.

I wear a watch very infrequently...I wear a gun much more often....but I always have a gun at hand. Happen to have one of my M-41's in hand right now. and filling magazines. Being retired I really don't seem to care what time it is. My wife wanted to buy me a Breitling but the well worn Seiko she bought me 30 or more years ago still works just fine. It's on the night stand next to the bed next to the old 4 inch Combat Masterpiece.

I did satcom earth station installs all over the world. I found a company in Dubai that had knock off Rolex's that couldn't be detected until they were opened up. I gave up 5 of their $100 sub-mariner knock off's to by-pass a difficult situation at immigration or to GTF out exponentially as things were going south fast. Now that I an retired I still have one of those watches - it is a great knock off.

Oh yeah there is nothing like a quality watch. I appreciate them just as much or more than a well made firearm. My Omega Speedmaster Professional. Moon watch.
My wife and SIL picked it out for me about 5 years ago. I don’t have any other nice ones yet but I sure like to window shop. I want an Omega Dark Side of the Moon but they are north of $10K. I have almost walked out of a few shops with one. But have resisted up to now.

I'd be ecstatic with your Professional! Unless something just falls in my lap, that's the one I want next.

FWIW I'd rather have a 1990's Performance Auto (Shorty-9) on my hip than a $1,000+ watch on my wrist!

Been happy with Seiko' automatic dive watches for the past 30 years.... I'm on my 3rd and out of pocket about $600-700!
Most people here have all the autos they need for their hip already.
Personally, if I could get any of the majority of the watches posted in this thread for only $1,000.00 I'd be all over em, that'd be a heck of a deal for most of them, but that wouldn't even buy the band for the high end ones. lol

For a "Grand" I might get one or two myself....... but I said "$1,000+"

Paying over $1,000 for a watch ...... is past the point of diminishing returns for me. I got a buddy who recently got a $10,000 Rolex and carries a engraved Model 60...... while I'm happy for him neither is my cup of tea.

Course he's the guy who sold me three PC guns.... and doesn't understand why I'm still carrying a Model 3913!!! But still my 'bud' after over 25 years.

Hey, I'd carry an engraved anything, as long as it was dependable. I always carry my collectables, but then that's all I buy. lol
I'd spend 10k on the right watch too.

I seem to recall posting on a watch thread on this site before; however, when I was in my teens I thought Patek's were cool and an old timer offered me one from the 1950's-1960's (????) to do some work for him--handy man. Back then, I'd work as many hours as I could and take on side jobs. I still don't know jack when it comes to watches but it did not feel right to take it as trade because I thought at the time it was worth a lot but didn't know how much. Can't really tell the more knowledgable than me what variant or model. Heck, it could have been a fake for all I know.

Anyways, on my list of bucket 'items' that I'd like to own someday is this Tag Heuer.

It is probably one of the least expensive watches on this post, but I don't care I just like it. This is my luxury watch. Until smart phones came out, I used a watch and always enjoyed them. It is how I chose to tell the time. If that makes sense. Never owned anything fancy except one older Movado or 'museum watch' in stainless.

One of these days I will get around to buying this but every time I always end up buying another gun. Maybe 2020 is the year that I just do it. Best, TH

I like a good quality mechanical watch, they are works of art. I have one, which I think has an ETA 2892 Chronometer grade movement. I like it a lot, it loses maybe a minute every month or so. No, not a battery powered quartz watch, but it impresses me that a tiny mechanical device can be that precise. Skilled watch makers were able to do the same over 100 years ago.

My gripe is the newer watches are way overloaded with bling, which just raises the price. Then everyone else adds bling and raises the price to compete, etc. Now most of them are just gaudy.

I have a close to 30 year old Tag Hauer (quartz), which is very classy. it will never go out of style. The newer ones don't interest me much.

That is one of the reasons Rolex are so highly regarded - they still make classy watches similar to those from over 70 years ago. They never go out of style or look dated.

A chronograph is about as "blingy" if you wanna call it that I want to be. They're tiny little, precise machines on your wrist is what mesmerizes me too.

"blingy"?

I can see no bling in here.

Hopefuly a better picture than the one taken on my wrist.:D

I've seen a lot of "knock off" Rolex's over the years and no matter how good they looked one familiar with them could tell at a close glance they were fakes. An original Rolex has a mechanical movement with a sweep second hand and the fakes have electric movements where the second hand moves in one second jerks.

I've had a Seiko Chrono Titanium 200M for about 15 years. Does that count? Probably not. :( Never was one for luxury anything. Well, maybe a luxury yacht.

Worn it everyday for all those years. Beat the h*** out of it working construction and she still keeps good time. Probably still be running fine 10 years after I cash in my chips.

Maybe not a luxury watch, but the Seiko's get a world of respect from the watch guys for sure.
I love my Seikos, no better watch for the money not to mention Seiko's been in the luxury end for years with their Grand Seiko's.
A real watch guy recognizes a Grand Seiko!
