I am curious to learn when these were likely made, and anything else about them for that matter. The bottom of the flask/bottle, while difficult to photograph, says, all in capitals “DEPOSE.”
These are part of a set hidden discreetly in what appears to be a book:
The “book” is currently with a restorer who tells me that the spine appears to be, roughly, from the 18th century, that the cover boards are not original to the book’s spine, and that there are indications that the “book” as it is now came together over time in different locations.
I originally thought the “book bar set” likely was created during prohibition from an old book. This may be the case, but I am now considering perhaps its fabrication is earlier. Looking into it, the Temperance Movement, in the US, began in the 1820s...
