Windows put out buggy updates all the time. If I were you I would just use the restore option and go back a couple of days. Jmo

I set Win 10 so it won't automatically update. It tells me what updates are available, but I seldom update.
As far as this site, I use Chrome for my browser, and it's as far as I know never been classed as secure.

I got the Windows update last week and my Google Chrome wouldn't open so I messed with it a while and gave up and started using Internet Explorer then a few hours later it wouldn't open. I got on my other computer and Googled for a fix and it recommended to uninstall your web browzer then reinstall it and I tried that and Chrome then did work but my files, pictures, shortcuts were totally messed up and I've spent hours fixing them. My laptop is still not back to where it was but it's usable, GRRRRR!!

Hang on. I just ordered Windows 10 for dummies. It will be here next week and then we will get this thing solved.

I agree, have used Firefox from the beginning and Netscape for years before that. This site is not secure because the "https:\" is not enabled. Also applies to a number of other sites that are gun-related. Dave_n

Try another Browser.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never experienced a problem with an update. I don't use Edge, but my Firefox favorites are still happily in place.

Ten is a PITA, but that is progress. Change is hard, but you adapt. We made the change awhile back at work. Basically, they forced us to do it because left to our own devices we would still be using dial up. I can remember how I hated GUI's instead of command line. People aren't programmed for change. I have to admit I have been forced to accept it since my employer seems to be changing technologies constantly and we are expected to figure it out with less and less BT support.

Some versions of Win10 will let you, and others not, I believe.

Windows 10 Pro lets you postpone updates for up to 35 days. Windows 10 Home will only let you postpone for 7 days. This feature was changed a couple of full version updates back. When 10 was first released, you could turn Pro updates off.

Please, not WP. It was designed for touch typists and reformatting once finished was a PIA. During my early years working for Uncle Sam, my secretaries came very close to strangling me with a mouse cord when I moved them over to Word. As far as I know, WP only kept going in its later years because of Uncle Sam's secretaries!! Dave_n

Everything past 7 has been a total cluster. I updated a laptop from 7 to 10 and now half the programs that are supposed to work properly when downloaded will not do what they are supposed to. Also Mfg. software supplied with products will not even activate/load when you try to load them VIA CD drive. My example being CHIRP which is a downloadable program that you can use to program these new Amateur VHF/UHF radios will not work and the Mfg. software won't even load.

Don't worry, they will.
I always chuckle about these update complaints. Yes, they can be a pain. It's not that the new system doesn't work, it's just not familiar. Win 10 has many features that I like over Win 7.
I also do the updates. The benefit of doing the updates is increased security. Also, if you don't do the updates regularly, sometimes a future update that you need, will require all the previous updates to be done before the one you want can be installed. Therefore, it's usually just easier to do the updates.
Also, believe it or not, they do listen to the complaints. Those updates you're not installing often have fixes to what you hate.
The best solution for me was to direct when the updates happen. So, I have mine set to update in the middle of the night. In the 5 years since Win 10 has been out, I haven't had a single issue.

Me also, but it mostly seems to make a difference when running on hardware that was designed for it. Updating an old Win7 platform doesn't reap much of a benefit gain.

I updated an old computer from 7 to 10 and I got to like 10. But then after an update my touch pad quit working. Fortunately this laptop still had a "joystick" or whatever it's real name is in the keypad between the g and h keys. Using that I googled the problem and found a fix that involved downloading and installing an older version of the touch pad driver, and then editing the registry (regedit) to prevent it from updating in the future.
I'm glad that fixed it but I learned a lot more about operating systems than I want to know.

I honestly don't know about that. I upgraded a Win 7 laptop to Win 10 and had zero issues. My wife still uses that laptop without issue.
My current laptop came with Win 10. I know what's different between the two machines, but I don't know if any of it is Win 10 specific. Biggest difference is a faster processor and a dedicated video card in the new laptop. Otherwise they're pretty similar. Both operate Win 10 fine.

I have a desktop running XP and a laptop running Vista. So far so good. But I don't use them too much anymore. Turn them on once a month to run the updates for Norton.

Granted new hardware is improved, but I feel the native Win10 support for the new PCIe drives NVMe specification, and DirectX 12 for the new graphics card, helps get the most from the hardware, although I haven't tried to put Win7 on the new computer to test the theory.

In my experience it's all about the memory. If you thought Vista and 7 were memory hogs, then 10 will take you into another league. My company sent me a Win 10 laptop to use for working from home and it came with 12 GB of memory installed. That's a lot of levels of Doom.
My wife's Win 7 machine with 6GB got updated to 10 and you have to be really ruthless with browser clean-ups and restricting what can run in the background or it starts to grind.
