WW III
Barely 9 and sounds like D day! Hurray for the Fourth! Times are tough for many but they all seem to have scraped up enough to buy a good supply of fireworks. Saw flags flying today in celebration also. God bless America !

last night and to night feels like the first nights of Tet in 1968. I have been hiding in the basement to avoid the noise. I honor our country and founding fathers, but I wish those folks that think celebrating the 4th with fireworks knew what is like to be under fire, feel the jarring from incoming artillery and mortar's. it will be several weeks of not sleeping well and being as nerves as a long tail in in a room full of rocking chairs

The neighbors got some mortars. I don't mind but Matilda the kitten does not like it. She's in my chair, full belly, and 2 radios on.

99°F and 10% humidity here. There's a reason the "proper" fireworks are supposed to be banned in this county. Of course, a quick run to Nye or the rez deals with the availability problem.
I just don't want to have to stand guard all night with the hose. I ran the sprinklers at 2030 to wet down the yard some.

It's just 10:22 PM July 4th as I type this. Explosions going off all around our
neighborhood continuously. I have never understood the attraction.
The poor animals. I guess some guys just never grow up.

Plenty quiet on our block, but with the majority of the residents being older they like their sleep and with the conditions here with the wind, everything dry as a tinderbox it isn't just worth it. Sometimes when the conditions are more likely there may be some who put on a show with folks sitting on the porch or patio and watching, but they typically start about 9:00 PM and are done by 10:30 or so with people able to get a decent sleep. I think they realize if you want good neighbors you must also be a good neighbor yourself.

I live in a town plat of mostly brick homes, so it's just like living in a rock canyon. Every sound echos round and round. Friday night the locals were firing off fireworks until 1:30am, big motars that rivaled the cities professional display. Last night, sounded like the opening night of the air campaign in Bagdad, windows rattled and I was just waiting for the fire dept to show up somewhere, but at least they stopped by about 12:00am.

Any firework that leaves the ground is illegal here in Denver. The skies in my area were lit up well after midnight with not one patrol car to be seen. It wasn't this way ten years ago but times change I guess. Fortunately it rained heavily earlier in the afternoon so any chance of fire danger was minimized.
Must be one of those newfangled "Constitutional Rights" we keep hearing about.

Seemed like a lot more than usual last night and went on much later. People tired of the kung flu lock down?

Living in Memphis I have to imagine that's what it sounded like in the Führerbunker towards the end of April 1945.

Same here in Vegas. We've not had rain in nearly three months, so Metro and the Fire Dept said they were going to be hot and heavy this year. They even set up a website to report illegal fireworks. Looking about I'll bet they had more reports than they could deal with. About 2200 the scanner lit up with all kinds of brush fire, roof fire and palm fire calls. Wonder how that could happen all at once?
About 2230 my neighborhood got suddenly quiet, like a switch was thrown. Makes me think the firewatchers were involved.

Our neighborhood in SW Washington had multiple parties shooting commercial grade, aerial fireworks that were purchased on Indian reservations. Perfectly legal and very impressive. No crowds, just sit in the driveway and watch the action.

Probably the quietest 4th I can ever remember, there was something going on out to the west at the Casino, the city decided to cancel downtown and moved out of town around ten miles, it was barely visible. Locally just few people set things off. I have to say it was OK with me. I shoot at least three days a week and with black powder its almost like having stuff go off in your face, especially flint locks for real. I remember the years of kids getting burned, my MIL had a firework land nearly in her lap when it went off we were lucky that night. I thought the full moon was a better sight than the fireworks, perfectly clear sky.

It was pretty noisy in my neighborhood. Fireworks are technically illegal in the city limits, but that doesn't stop many folks from celebrating. My wife was annoyed and wanted to call the cops. I said, relax, the cops have more important things to do than chase kids with a few firecrackers. Besides, it's the sound of freedom.
There was one incident here where a guy burned his own house down. He saw a police car coming and quickly put all his fireworks into the garage. Evidently along with the lighters or "punks" as we always called them still lit. His house is a total loss after the stuff went off inside the garage and set the house alight.

We had about four similar incidents to varying degrees. At least one event consumed two cars and a garage.

JULY
I partially celebrated July, and thumbed my nose at the fool in Richmond's new laws by picking up this early 1940 M&P lend lease that never got proofed and made it home. The SD MYERS holster found a home after languishing in the holster box for years.
GO NRA!!
Got her out to the range this morning, shooting out of my Ransome rest. Under 3" groups at 25 yards. Wish I could still shoot that well.
