Our range is a little over a mile out of town. Rolling hills. I regularly see deer grazing nearby. To them it is just part of life. Wife and I often go on evening drives into the countrry side. We see lots of deer and occasionally some elk. But, I see more deer right here in town than anywhere. In fact the closer you get to town the more you see. Except for the small alfalfa field about 2 miles out of town right beside the creek. I have see about 50 on it at times.

Every once in the while a cougar shows up in town. With so many deer it is no real surprise to me. But, then moose have wandered into town along with an occasional bear. The coyotes and foxes are pretty much just here as are the hawks and sometimes an eagle

I have seen deer grazing in the McD's parking lot, by the courthouse stairs, in the school yard. The doe that regularly visits my place showed me her twins a while back. She laid in the shade and watched, while I used power tools moved wood and ran a nail gun. The grocery store is crooked 2 miles from my house. If it is anywhere near sun up or down you will not make the trip without seeing deer by the road.

Deer can become very used to people, traffic, noises and even guns.

I do think one of the reasons for towns having big increases in "urban deer" is the enforcement of leash laws. Fine by me. Don't need a bunch of loose dogs and deer roaming the streets is nice if you drive reasonably.

I have shoot Trap with deer so
Close to trap house that the
Range master stopped the match
(5 traps) and had every one
Shoo the deer away. That is 25
12 gauge guns firing!

I wasn’t shooting but bush hogging and one was following the tractor closely and browsing along.
I don’t know if it was smart or dumb.
