I love cats. The joy they have brought/do bring to our lives is immeasurable.

The eerie irony of this being Cat Day in that as of 0200 this morning we no longer have a clowder. We lost one last night.

Pepsi was 17 years old and Ruthie's favorite. As a kitten she was found emaciated and starving trapped in an overturned Pepsi machine. The vet called us and Ruthie latched onto her. Pepsi was always skittish around strangers but was like a Lampray Eel to Ruthie and never left her unattended. She slept on Ruthie's hip for all these years.

Ruthie held her as she breathed her last. We have all cried until our wells are dry. It's not the same here today and the other five cats are looking for her and acting squirrelly.

In time we will add another cat but we are retiring Pepsi's food dish.

I don't mean to cast a pall on this happy thread as I rather want to offer my appreciation to all who offer homes to our feline friends. Thank you.

Pepsi finally at peace:

Your cat and gun safety

Let's not forget to teach our feline companions about gun safety.

BATES TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man cooking in his kitchen was shot after one of his cats knocked his 9mm handgun onto the floor, discharging the weapon, Michigan State Police (search) said.
Joseph Stanton, 29, of Bates Township in Iron County, was shot in his lower torso around 6 p.m. Tuesday, the state police post in Iron River reported. He was transported to Iron County Community Hospital.

Michelle Sand, a spokeswoman at the Iron River hospital, said Stanton was treated there before being transferred to Marquette General Hospital for further treatment.

State police said he was cooking at his stove when the cat knocked the loaded gun off the kitchen counter behind him.

13 yr old "Speedos". Girlfriend named him that because he's lightning quick.
In the bottom pic he's checking out the sparrows in the burning bush.
