Midway had a good price on a case of MRE's With my birthday discount I got them for $3.88 a meal. Having got out of the service back when C-rats were the thing you got fed in the field I have no idea how good MRE are. Kind of a back up if leaving the house is not a good idea sometime in the future. Can't be much worse than McDonalds and cheaper. Did I make a mistake or will I be able to choke the things down:o

FWIW, if you do an Internet search you can probably find some MRE reviews. I think there are some on YouTube, too.

Probably the only way you'll know for sure is to try them.

Can't help ya. When I want an MRE, I eat at my brother's restaurant. :D

I am old enough to have enjoyed C-rats from the Korean war era and Vietnam, Never had a MRE. my wife sent me Tabasco, Heniz steak sauce the manager got a boat load of surplus G.I. food, they were for use in a field kitchen, and everything was dehydrated. The folks didn't work how to prepare them and were either not able to read English or lazy.. I showed the you just need to add to the pans and let them sit for 4 hours, I cooked a pan pork chops and a pan of cheesy potatos, It was pretty good.

One thing I learned while in the military eat when you can; and eat what is available.

Nothing is worse than McDonald's. MRE's aren't terrible, but I wouldn't want to eat them every day. They're a lot like the commercial brands of freeze-dried backpacking meals you get at camping supply stores. I never had to eat them while in the military, but I did have a couple of K-rations when doing survival training, one part was a pressed corn flake bar that doubled as a hammer. I think the ones we had were left over from WWII, I did survival training in 1988.

Be sure to add plenty of water, those things will stop you up like a wooden plug in a beer barrel
