Pet Peeve
There are some things (actually a lot) that just rub me the wrong way. We just had a rather heavy snowfall. It's been two days and people still haven't cleaned the snow from the roofs and hoods of their cars. How much effort does it take?
You're walking into a building and the person in front of you lets the door slam in your face. I was taught to hold the door for the person behind you if they are close.
You're talking to someone and they are chewing gum like a cow chewing a cud. Generally this is a younger type person. You just want to shove it down their throat.
Getting old is not for the faint of heart.
Rant off

I do not let trivial stuff like this spend any time in my head.
My blood pressure thanks me.

In 2020, I want people to let go of the door. If they hold it and I go in, I have to get right up next to them. The fact that “get away from me” is now a public health service announcement is the best part of this year as far as I’m concerned . .

Why would it possibly bother you if someone else’s car has snow piled on it? I cannot figure this one out. Around here, if you don’t need THAT car on THAT day, the sun and rising temperature will take that snow off for you in a day or two.
What did I miss? Why would this even register in your mind?

I used to be like that. Now I'm more of the "mind over matter" attitude. If you don't mind, it don't matter.

A lot of people remove the hood and roof snow by driving the vehicle! Just blow it off and blind another driver.

Are you following other vehicles THAT closely, and doing it in inclement weather?
Sometimes I get the feeling that I could solve a lot of problems for a lot of people.

I’ve tried, but it’s hard to monetize. The ones that need it most are too busy standing in their front yard in their bathrobe hitting their lawnmower with a shovel . . .

When we get a heavy snow, we dig just the 4wd truck out. The little Toyota Yaris just stays buried 'til the snow melts off.

I once had a pet peeve. Unfortunately, it got loose one day and the neighbor's cat ate it.

Because of that very scenario, a law was passed in my area that mandates you clean off the car IF you are on the road driving. People still disobey the law.
Some people also refuse to wear a mask and WalMart won't kick you out because they don't want a fight. Some people pass school busses with red lights. Some people speed thru school zones. Yada, yada, yada.
Its just a symptom of the I don't care attitude, I'm better than you, I'm in a hurry.
Its the lack of respect that rubs me the wrong way. But nevertheless I just have a beer and forgetaboutit.

Around here if you don't clean the snow off your car, you will get stopped.

I used to get peeved with the blatant stupidity of some people. No more, though. Now that I'm older, I kinda enjoy watching stupid people. I mean, where else can you find free comedy relief?

My number one peeve is screaming kids in restaurants. Their parents have 3 choices.
1. Shut the damn kid up.
2. Take the kid outside until he shuts up.
3. Just sit there and do nothing.
Guess which option is usually chosen.
A few years ago we took a couple of out-of-state friends to a nice restaurant where a kid began to scream uncontrollably. We could not talk to each other or even hear ourselves think. We asked the owner of the restaurant to speak to the parents. He did, and guess what happened. The parents chose option 3 and it was the worst time at a restaurant we've ever had. Some people have no class and that characteristic seems to pass right on to their kids. I swore from that time on I'd bring a roll of duct tape and tear off a length of it and give it to whoever dragged the kid to the restaurant instead of hiring a baby sitter...

I forget who originally said it, but it was over 200 years ago. Laws only work if there is an expectation of punishment.

I live in the wrong century.
When my wife and I are in a sitdown restaurant, I pull out and hold her chair, then help her get seated. I open doors for her, and help her with her coat. When she leaves from or returns to the table, I stand. It's my public acknowledgement of my respect and gratitude for 47 years, some good, some very hard.
Last Christmas an older gentleman came over as we were leaving and quietly said it was nice to see that some remember.

I could never agree with you less: When I wish to pass thru a door ; GET OUT OF THE WAY. I will never rub up against another male as if we were playing b ball at a Wesson party., the same as I will never walk in front of a car with the motor running.

If I knew I wasn't going to get in trouble, there are a LOT of things I would do that I don't now. So, yeah, it kinda does work.
Then of course there are those hardened criminals or those who believe in better living through chemistry who don't think, so, sure, it isn't universal.

Around here the cops would be really busy, then the people would get up in arms, their would be a bunch of hollering at the next council meeting and either the chief of police would go or some of the city council.
Its not what it looks like your honor, I was hauling this to disposal.
A couple days ago there was a 5 ft snow barrier between the lanes inmost parts of town. If your following some one with snow on their car and it gets on your windshield YOU were way to close on bad roads.

You won't have as many peeves, irritated stomachs, colons and headaches if you watch less of the National TV News. Most of the stuff that gets to you, you can do little about.
As for everyday politeness like holding doors for people, the thanks and smiles that you usually get makes the effort worth while. Besides that. it is the right thing to do.

It works for you, at the moment. If it worked for everyone, there would be no first time offenders . . .

Actually, four of them. All under control and behaving themselves. All were taught to behave themselves in public.

The people who let their kids misbehave in public, especially in restaurants, are probably the people who believe in this "It takes a village.." nonsense. And probably living on the village's dime. A good example of what my mother called "People who can't spend more than ten seconds a day thinking about anybody but themselves."

[QUOTE=PALADIN85020;140982877]My number one peeve is screaming kids in restaurants.

Mentioned this before. People who walk beside their cart in the store, effectively blocking the whole aisle. Then they stop, begin playing with their phone. Ask to get by, regardless how polite, they look at you like you owe them money. There are others, but this one tops the list just now.

Being retired the snow removal thing is like this, god put it there and he'll take it away. I don't worry about the snow anymore and certainly don't have the need to remove it, here in Missouri it doesn't last more then a day or two anyway.
