Default PC protection suggestions

I am about to lose the Norton protection due to Comcast not offering it free with my subscription.
Looking to find a free or inexpensive spyware/virus protector that works well.
I realize that free is usually worth what one pays, just curious what you folks are happy with, regardless.

Thanks!

Here's a recent thread on the topic:

Anti-Virus Alternatives for Comcast Users - Need Suggestions

FWIW, I use the Windows Defender and the free version of Bit Defender. I also periodically run the free versions of CCleaner and Malwarebytes. No complaints so far. *knocks on wood*

Another vote for Bit Defender.

I've been using Avast Free Antivirus for the last decade or better and I have been totally happy with it. It's free for personal use. Other free antivirus I have used in the past are AVG Free, which I actually had a couple of viruses get through and Avira Free, which worked well but had enormous nag screens that I got tired of. I've not seen any significant computer slowdowns with Avast, but then none of my computers run minimal specs in memory or processor either.
