The .357 Sig will make that P229 come alive. Mine even with .40 S&W sights shoots flat to 100 yards. The recoil will be more "crisp", but doesn't feel as heavy as the .40 does.
Be sure you wear GOOD ear protection though as the .357 is REALLY loud!
I carry the P229 with the 357, but use the .40 barrel for practice as .40 is so much cheaper. The .357 will also make the P229 100% reliable too because of the bottle necked case putting a smaller bullet in a bigger hole. That's what the Secret Service, Texas Rangers, Sky Cops and many other Feds are going to.
