Any other metalheads on here? What was one band that got you into heavy music? I thought I'd start a thread where fellow heavy music fans could share music, stories, etc. I'll start by posting a video from a band that is local to the New Orleans area where I grew up. This is the almighty CROWBAR from New Orleans, Louisiana. They are one of the bands who started a booming Nola Sludge metal scene that blew up in the 90's and dominated our local heavy music scene until around the late 2000s. You can still find plenty of New Orleans bars and music venues that book both local and national sludge bands to this day.

I like metal bands, but I'm not really into the really "hard" stuff. I'm not even sure if some of the "harder" bands I like qualify as metal rather than alternative rock.

However, I would say that Metallica was probably the first one I got into when I was in high school. At one point I even learned the intro for "Unforgiven."

This is probably my favorite:

Speaking of heavy metal

Skelecaster: Florida man turns his uncle's skeleton into electric guitar

Now this is what you call a hollow-body guitar. The Tampa musician calling himself Prince Midnight built this conversation-starter (and ender?) from his uncle’s skeleton fused to the, erm, bones of a Fender Telecaster....

I'll go ahead and toss some Megadeth into the pot! Megadeth is still one of my favorite bands and one of the first to turn me onto heavy music. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3dZ5GwxUw8"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3dZ5GwxUw8[/ame]

I grew up listening to bands like Testament and Metallica, but I now consider those "thrash." These days, at age 50+ I'm exclusively into Second Wave Norwegian Black Metal like 1990's era Gorgoroth, Immortal, Burzum, early Darkthrone, Mayhem etc. It is an acquired taste and one must develop an ear to hear and truly appreciate the subtleties and artistry of the genre. Many people don't like it the first time they hear it, but with repetition it grows on you. I don't like everything the abovementioned bands put out, but sometimes just a single album out of their catalog.

I cut my metal teeth on Metallica, Anthrax, WASP and Megadeth
A road trip just isn't a road trip without this.

However, it seems Old blackie turned in his goat leggings, much to the confusion of much of his fan base.

I love the fathers of metal. Black Sabbath and Deep Purple Mk2. Years ago around 1973 , a friend of mine had a sister who’s boyfriend played us Black Sabbath Master Of Reality and Deep Purple In Rock and since that day they are still my 2 favorites. Saw both of them many times. I also love Motörhead , Waysted , UFO , MSG , Thin Lizzy , Iron Maiden ,Anthrax , Dio , Bernie Torme and melodic hard rock like Gary Moores Corridors Of Power and on and on.
