The wife and I went to Louisiana for a few days to visit her kids. While there we took a little ride to Baton Rouge and saw the Old State Capitol Building. It's beautifully preserved/restored. The stained glass and spiral staircase were magnificent. Pictures below.

I have just literally put down a pad and pen planning a possible U.S. trip next year (fingers crossed we can travel before the end of 2021) where a visit to the Old State Capital in Baton Rouge was #1 on the list for that city.

The U.S.S. Kidd was #2 given that the Texas is closed for repairs.

Great pictures. I may have to check that out someday, I love visiting old state houses and courthouses.

Go see the Berks County Courthouse in downtown Reading, PA. It's something like 15 stories tall and resembles the tall building shown on the beginning of the old Superman TV show. I remember there was a fellow operating a shoeshine business down in the basement.

WOW. I have been born and lived in Louisiana all of my life and have never given that building a second thought much less gone into it. The only time I see it is when I'm driving to the 1st Circuit for oral argument. Had no idea how beautiful it is.

When was it built and when did they move out of that building?

Here's a brief history of the building.

The History | Louisiana's Old State Capitol

Without rereading everything again, it was built about 1850, burned down during the Civil War except for the exterior walls. Sat dormant for 20 years. Rebuilt, burned again at some point. Rebuilt again. The new State Capitol, just a few blocks away, was built about 1930. Pictured below is how the Old Capitol Building looked after the fire during the Civil War.

I understand that the interior of the ship looks really good . They restored it to wartime configuration .

That probably explains some confusion I had. The website for the Kidd says the restoration is complete, but news articles I've found say it has not been restored in 40 years. Apparently both are correct :). The interior is done but the exterior/structure needs work.
