But then in those days the goal was to just get drunk.

PBR is about the worst national brand beer I've ever tasted. How they have to gonads to call that a blue ribbon beer is beyond me.
Many I've known are ok with it. But they're usually ok with any beer as long as it's wet.

I remember all those generic products during the late '70s when inflation was higher than it is today. Beer cans simply marked "BEER"...blocks of cheese simply marked "CHEESE", etc. Thankfully they all went away.

You wanna talk about bad beer? When I was a young troop at Ft. Hood(72-74), the PX sold Texas Pride for $2 a case. 
This stuff was definitely end of the month beer.
While I was in Germany, the EM Club was introducing a new German brand, Cluss, at 5 cents a bottle. It wasn't worth that much.  But it sure was a cheap drunk.

I used to use Schlitz in my smoker. Two cans of beer in the drip tray, fill it the rest of the way up with water. The steam coming off of that basting the meat. That was good.
Bought some Meister Brau one time. Ruined a 6 lb roast. Stuff was so nasty you couldn't even cook with it.

I have no problmem with PBR if it is cold.
I learned in the service that there was only one bad beer, that I ever drank
and it was while I was on the island of Guam.
Even today I have been know to pop a cap and drink this stuff, when the frig gets low.

I never drank any of those. Mainly because I grew up in St. Louis, and our hometown brew - Busch beer (a.k.a. bottom of the barrel Budweiser) - was pretty much always cheaper than anything else in the cold case.

We were just discussing this subject last week at the old geezers table. Few remember those days. IIRC Ford had a generic pickup truck as well. White with black plastic interior. Rubber floor mats and a heater. A light half ton.
